Game pass game just re-installed and lost save games

I have been playing Mechwarrior 5 and put in some serious hours.

Turned my PC on this morning after playing it yesterday with no issues and went to play it and it said it wasn't available.

Went into the xbox app and it said the game was installing.

After the game finished install it plays ok but all my save games are lost.

All other games in the xbox app play fine and all saves are intact.

I have a theory that when it decided to re-install itself it has installed itself onto another hard drive. As the xbox app is showing as the default install location to be C and I had it set to E. I cant find an easy way to tell on a per app basis where
each game is installed like you can on steam.

I think the game should have been installed on my E: drive.

If I start powershell as administrator and go into the E: drive I can see a folder called E:\WindowsApps\PiranhaGamesInc.MechWarrior5Mercenaries.......

If i do the same on the C: drive where I think it may have just re-installed to I can see a folder called C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\PiranhaGamesInc.MechWarrior5Mercenaries......

How can I confirm where the game is currently installed to?

If it has re-installed clean on another drive where would my save games be?

I have tried support but they havent been any help so far.

No need to do that. If you have been playing online with your account all the saves get registered under the cloud saves.

The download wasn't a reinstallation, it was a patch (though given the size, it might as well have been!).

In their (Piranha Games) infinite stupidity & incompetence, the patching process attempted to copy save games to a new location, and then deleted the old saves without 1st verifying the success of the copy operation.

As is now apparent, this copy operation fails when the game isn't installed on your boot drive.

Your saves are gone.

I have been playing through the campaign missions. While I have been saving the game I have been signed into my xbox account and online. But there are currently no saved games for me to choose from now. When I was playing it I had created around 10 manual
saves.

That's unbelievable if they have managed to screw it up again. I really feel for you those first few levels are a real drag.

I finished it over the weekend. Found the first time round I was about 90% of the way through.

2nd time I used the save game editor to get a load of cash and mechs so I didnt have to at least grind for them. Still a drag to go through the levels again but glad I managed it before this latest patch.

just did it again!!

so June 5th all my progress gone

started again, another excruciating drag through the first 8 levels

June 15th Updated again today without permission (mid way through game resulting in BSOD) and all saves gone. ****?

If you want to identify a software company to avoid this one is really making its way up the ranks to avoid, not even EA can claim to delete your progress in their games (if they work properly in the first place).

So I'm gutted again on a well known problem, hopefully they will get their heads in gear before another 35 gig of updates that have wasted another 30hrs+
