Game Owned on 360 but not on One

So I have had Grand Theft Auto 5 on my 360 for at least 4 years, and last year it stopped saying I owned it on my Xbox One. I can still play it on the 360 but the One wants me to buy it again. Any thoughts?

GTA5 is not backwards compatible with the One. So you would have to buy it on the One in order to play it there. Have you had Game Pass? GTA5 was included with Game Pass up until a few months ago. You may have been playing through that.

Certain games have seperate versions for 360 and the One. GTA 5 has a 360 version that hasnt really gotten updates from what i remember. This version is different from the one used on Xbox One which is up to date on dlc and content. Any data you have on
your 360 copy wont be carried over as well if you choose to buy the xbox one version except for your achievements i believe. Some other games that also have different versions are battlefield hardline and COD: Ghosts. Sucks to have to start over but its worth
it as the One version has much more content

None of the above work if you've never owned an Xbox 360 and are trying to claim the Xbox 360 GwG games for use on the Xbox One. That's the problem. MS is advertising that you now get twice as many games on the Xbox One (due to the BC feature), yet there
is no way to actually claim those games unless you own or previously owned an Xbox 360.

ok I get that but I own digital 360 copies of games list in the store for xbox one I thought if I own the 360 version I didn't have to buy it again xbox one
