Do you think buying game guides have sense today? I have recently buyed 2 game guides because i like it, but many of my friends makes fun of me for wasting money because i can find all i need on internet.

I know they are right but for me it's not a waste of money.

    What do you think?

    :)

It depends a lot on the quality of the guide. If a guide helps you to better understand the story of the game, the Lore and how to start moving inside it, giving you advice, I can not see anything wrong.

Obviously it's not a waste of money as long as you make use of the product and like it. So if you prefer having something printed in your hands (possibly with nice artworks or other things) I'd say it's worth it.
I recently made some good deals getting used limited edition guides fairly cheap for older games like Gears, Mass Effect and others for around 3-5€ each.

  6. It's a personal choice. I buy books because I like having something physical, rather than digital. Are your friends right, they prefer to use web based, you prefer a physical book. It is not a waste of money if you are getting enjoyment from owning them.

To each their own. I see them as collectibles and if you're into it it's all fine.

    Game Guides

That's a tough call. On the one hand, they do often include additional story components that help set up the game universe better. For those of us who enjoyed gaming in the 80s and 90s because of the instruction manuals (that have long since disappeared
and been replaced by in-game tutorials), the strategy guide is a throwback to a bygone era.

On the other, your friends have a point (though they are expressing it the wrong way). A quick Bing/Google search will get you past almost any point in a game where you might get stuck. Plus, it's better to just get a nudge in the right direction instead
of having a printed walkthrough of the game.

Then there is this - they may be going away on their own. As I understand it, Prima will stop publishing game guides in early 2019, so they are about to become collector's items, maybe.

In the end, you answered your own question - "for me it's not a waste of money". That's what counts the most. If it's something you enjoy, enjoy it and don't worry about others, and hopefully your friends will learn to express their views a bit more tactfully.

The game guides I buy today are for series that I really enjoy and I want to have the Full experience. They help to provide the information needed to 100% a Game, but they also can be a great resource for extra Material and production information.

Plus some of them look really cool on a coffee table and are great conversation starters.

  11. A lot of other's have hit it right on the head for me. It depends on personal preference, collectors value and if you enjoy the extra story/background/art.

I personally still collect game guides for several different games and mostly do it for the art. I buy the hardback copies and enjoy keeping them on display. I've had several friends who've enjoyed looking through them and talking about their experience
    playing through the game.

I was sad to hear the news that PRIMA games, one of the top developers of game guides will be closing its doors in the near future.

I don't think I've ever purchased a game guide. For older JRPG games I'd just consult a pretty well known website for game guides at the time, get past the bit I was stuck on and go back to playing the game. I have a few friends who used to love collecting
the official game guides for games because of all the artwork included. So I'd guess the same still applies. Some people just prefer the touch and feel of paper when it comes to finding the solution to their gaming woes.

If you're happy with your choice, keep doing what you're doing.

Games guides arent as necessary as they used to be (see Prima shutting down) but Im always for buying something tangible, especially if there’s been a lot of care taken to make it.

Are the guides on the internet just a digital version of the physical guide? or are they youtube videos?

I think it is handy to have everything you need in one place, and since you have a physical copy, you can refer to it, even when your internet goes out.

I personally would think it's a waste of money because I wouldn't be keeping it after I use it. It would be one thing if it was a thing I collected afterwards.
