  1. Game DVR and external storage.

Currently trying to get my head around an issue I'm having with capturing to external storage which I have tested on two 4TB drives, when the drive gets half full of recordings the game DVR stops recording to the drive even though it says it's recording at the time, the best I get is a 1K file of no recording.

A question I have is, is there anything with a performance/free capacity impact that would cause problems with the game DVR? If I mess about with the files, when sorting something for YouTube I can get it recording to the drive again but I'm soon back at square one again when the drive fills up again.

I've done a very basic report so far but this seems to be a more complicated issue.

Added External Drive, can I transfer captures that are on Internal, if so how?

AFAIK, game dvr saves are stored in the reserved part of the internal HDD. That internal storage space is limited so to allow extended clips the option to use an external HDD was added however it can only be used with an NTFS formatted HDD. An NTFS formatted
HDD cannot however be used to save games and apps which need an Xbox format so you will need to chose between the two usage cases or add a second external HDD if you wish to have both external games/apps storage and game dvr clips.

    Xbox Clipping not working

How you checked you have enough space on the internal HDD?

Do you have an external HDD attached?

Do you upload on the DVR I beleive know there is a specific amount of storage allocated to each persons Xbox DVR storage. Once you are at the maximum any new recorded clips will cause the oldest unsaved
    ones to be deleted.

Game DVR doesnt work properly with Warframe on One X if played from external storage device

I see, it really looks like it might be a game compatibility issue with Xbox DVR mode. I believe this can only be resolved with an update for this game to fix the problem.

Please check out the link below as well, where it gives instructions on how to fix possible problems with an external storage device.

    Backup gaming clips

    Hello Kursaalflyer,

Thank you for your quick response.

It appears that the capture location for your external drive is saved to GameDVR folder and XboxCapture copies folder. When copying multiple copies it goes directly to Xbox Capture Copies folder while captures clip is directly saved to GameDVR folder.

The GameDVR folder in external storage is a folder that contains the game clips and screenshots that you have recorded using the Xbox Game DVR feature on your console. The Game DVR feature allows you to capture your gameplay moments and share them with your friends or on social media. After recording clips, your external drive can now be plugged into a PC, where the traditional video files can be extracted. This essentially turns your console into a simple capture card, allowing recordings to be locally transferred for use in PC-based editing software. All files created by Game DVR can be found under the "Game DVR" folder automatically created on your drive.

The Xbox capture copies folder in external drive is a folder that contains the copies of the game clips and screenshots that you have recorded using the Xbox Game DVR feature on your console and then transferred to your external drive. The Xbox Game DVR feature allows you to capture your gameplay moments and share them with your friends or on social media. By transferring your game captures to an external drive, you can save space on your internal drive, backup your captures, and access them on other devices.

You can edit both the files saved on the GameDVR folder and the Xbox capture copies folder using PC editing tools. The difference is that the files on the GameDVR folder are the ones that you have recorded directly to your external drive by setting it as your capture location, while the files on the Xbox capture copies folder are the ones that you have copied or moved from your internal drive to your external drive. Both folders contain the same type of files, which are MP4 video files for game clips and PNG image files for screenshots.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

edit xbox clips on xbox app on pc and upload it

    Hi Rastigan,

The only videos that are eligible for upload is if they have been recorded using the Game DVR, if a video is taken from Game DVR and edited externally, the Xbox App will recognize the file as external and not allow it to be uploaded.

I hope this information helps, thanks.
