  1. Game data doesn't free up disk space after uninstall

Hi, I found out that when I uninstall a game using the Xbox PC launcher, the game data doesn't free up disk space. I have around 100GB blocked on my SSD.

I can't access the game files because I don't have permission to access the installation folder.

So... (mod removed) What should I do?

    Thanks for the advice

    Mike

    :)

I have to admit, I've lost my patience. I don't like the fact that I can't access installed files at all. It's a behavior I've only encountered with viruses.

I solved the problem by uninstalling all the Xboxware, quitting Gamepass and formatting my gaming SSD to restore its full capacity. Problem solved.

I hope that in the future the Xbox app will start treating installed data like other launchers and I can return to Gamepass.

why is it when i uninstall a game it still takes up storage?

Hi and thanks for reaching out. I hope you’re doing well. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I'll be happy to help you.

When you uninstall a game, some of its files and data might still remain on your device, which can take up valuable storage space. This often happens because the game leaves behind temporary or cache files, system files, or configuration files that are necessary for the proper functioning of your device. These files can accumulate over time and contribute to storage issues.

To free up more storage space, you can try the following steps:

    1. Remove the game's leftover files: Locate the game's folder in the "Program Files" directory and delete it. You can also search for the game's name in the file explorer to see if there are any other leftover files.

    2. Clear your system cache: System cache files can take up a lot of space. To clear them, you can use a tool like CCleaner or a built-in system optimization tool on your device.

    3. Uninstall other unnecessary apps and programs: Over time, you may have installed many apps and programs that you no longer need or use. Uninstalling these can free up valuable storage space.

    4. Use disk cleanup: Windows has a built-in tool called "Disk Cleanup" that can help you free up storage space. It will scan your device and identify files and data that can be safely deleted to free up space.

By following these steps, you should be able to free up some storage space on your device and make more room for the things you need.

    Full retail download size!

Everyone calm down. If anything xbox one games will be roughly the same size as their 360 counterparts at launch. 360 game install sizes are simply images of the game disk, with blank space trimmed off the ends. This includes all the duplicate data to improve
read performance from the disk. Since all xbox one games are completely installed to the hard drive, there's no need to duplicate commonly accessed data on the disk which frees up space.

    .

Yes, games will get bigger with time, but they're not going to jump from 6-16GB all the way to 60GB in the next 1.5 months.

Shadow of Tombraider Xbox one - CONTENT IS CURRENT INSTALLING!!!! SO UNHAPPY

You could start a new game, see if that would work, but if it doesn't, then uninstalling is the better option. Follow instructions on here to uninstall a game on the console https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/games/troubleshooting/free-up-hard-drive-space
