    Game Content Usage Rules Query


    Hello, I am asking about what I am legally allowed to do with certain "Game Content" that Microsoft owns. I am aware that Spyro the Dragon is an IP that Microsoft currently owns via their acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and that the GCUR stipulates that unless Microsoft is the publisher, I would need to seek out the original publisher of the "Game Content". In my case, I want to use music from the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy on the Playstation 1 in some of my YouTube videos (non-profit). However, would I still be alright to use that music in videos that are not about Spyro the Dragon itself? The videos will be of a wide variety of subjects, many of which about video games, a handful of which are IPs owned by Microsoft. Would this license only apply to videos directly pertaining to the game which the "Game Content" is from?
    Additionally, where would I go to get this music if I am allowed to use it? Is recording the music from the game footage itself considered "reverse engineering"?

    Ever since recently, I have been working to make sure that the videos on my YouTube channel are all doing things correctly when it comes to dealing with copyrighted material, so it would help me tremendously to know what is and is not legally permitted for what I intend to do.

    I understand that they don't want you messing with their IP's like that but so long as he doesn't sell it for a profit shouldn't he be fine? There are mods for all sorts of games that use skins from all sorts of media.

    Star Wars: Empire At War, is a Lucas Arts game & you will need to get permission from Lucas Arts & also Microsoft Studios for using a HALO games content in Star Wars: Empire At War etc...

    I highly doubt, Microsoft will allow it either..

    [/quote]You seem to be forgetting this is the Xbox forums. Most people here don't even understand anything about PC gaming or the fact that mods =/= hacks and try to defend the 360 til the end. Tons of amazing things come from gamers creating mods. IE:

    Look at Skyrim on PC     or
    even Minecraft.     And like above, DayZ for ARMA2 which mind you the developers are fully backing it by
    even selling a map on the game world on the official store and they're even working with the DayZ creators to bring it to ARMA3. While we're talking about that though, that mod
    single-handedly boosted that games sales. ARMA2 Combined Operations has been the top selling game on Steam ever since that mods release and it's not letting up yet. To even try to say mods "destroy" a developers creation is a joke itself. (99% of that wasn't

    That's what I was thinking. My original plan was just to do this as a bit of fun but after hearing about signing up and all this other stuff - it just seems too much of a hassle. In response to DanteSparda504's post, I do play Halo Wars and I think it is
    a lot of fun. However, I believe that they left out a huge part and that is space battles. With Empire at War, I would be able to put in space battles along with a galactic conquest feature.
