Game Bar won't let me record any program but games

Thanks for the detailed response. It didn't help the issue and I still don't have any of the settings pop up. I can access the game bar but it won't let me screen record or edit screen recording settings which are what I need.

The GeForce Experience uses its own video recording software called 'Shadow Play', it shouldn't have any effect on the Windows Game Bar video recorder as they are separate programs.

Are you sure you haven't lowered the recording settings in Game Bar?

Hi, thank you for responding. I tried this even though I had already tried and It didn't seem to change anything It still won't let me open it with the shortcut. I found something that is weird in settings under "Xbox game bar" it's the thing that says "enable Xbox game bar for things like recording..." and I assume that this needs to be on but it won't let me turn it on I'll turn it to on and I got out and back in and it's back to off again, do you think this might be the issue?

To record Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, you need to enable the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option in the Game Bar settings. Here are the steps to do so:



1. Press the Windows key + G to open the Game Bar.

2. Click on the Settings icon (gear icon) on the Game Bar.

3. In the Game Bar settings, make sure that the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option is turned on.

4. Also, make sure that the "Record audio when I record a game" option is turned on if you want to record audio along with your gameplay.

5. Once you have enabled these settings, you can start recording your gameplay by pressing the Windows key + Alt + R.



Please note that not all games support Game Bar overlay recording. If you are having trouble recording Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, it could be due to the game not supporting this feature. You can check the game's display settings to see if there are any options related to Game Bar overlay recording.

Game Bar names recordings after the app it was recording, so in this case it was recording the Control Panel.

Game Bar can only record one app window, it will record the app which was focused when you started the recording. It cannot switch to recording another app after you begin recording.

I'm afraid it won't be possible to fix this recording. Game Bar only recorded that specific window; you can't go back and change that as any other data was not captured during the recording.

If you wish to record your whole screen, I recommend using a different recording app such as OBS. Game Bar is designed for recording games, hence why it can only capture one window at a time.
