Game Bar ignores settings for opening with guide button on Windows 11 Insider Preview...

On the most recent canary version of Windows 11, the Game Bar starts appearing when pressing the guide button on an Xinput controller, even when the options for bringing up the Game Bar with a controller are set to off. Reverting to an earlier release fixes the issue.

(I know technically this isn't an Xbox Insider issue, but it is an Xbox and Insider issue.)

Xbox controller guide and share button dont do anything on Windows 11

Hello Philipp E, I am an independent advisor and I will be happy to help you today. My name is Khaji

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the guide button and share button on your Xbox controller in Windows 11. Sometimes software updates can affect the functionality of controllers and related features.

Open the Game Bar on your PC by pressing the Windows + G key combination. Make sure the screenshot and recording options are enabled in the Game Bar settings. You can access the Game Bar settings by clicking the gear icon in the Game Bar toolbar.

Open the Xbox Settings app on your PC and check the controller-related settings. Make sure the "Use the Xbox button to open the guide" option is enabled. You can also review your recording and screenshot settings in the Xbox Settings app.

Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your Xbox controller. You can download the latest drivers from the Xbox website or use the Windows driver update feature to check for updates.

Some privacy settings may affect the functionality of the Game Bar and related features. Go to Windows 11 settings, select "Privacy" and check the settings related to screenshot and game recording. Make sure they are enabled and allowed for the gaming app.

If none of the above suggestions work, you can try resetting your Game Bar settings. To do this, go to Windows 11 settings, select "Games" and then "Games Bar." Click the "Reset" link to reset the Game Bar settings to default values.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding! If you need anything else, do not hesitate to contact us again.

Xbox "A Button" launching game bar on Windows 11

Thank you for contact us! I'm Anderson, an Independent Consultant and a Microsoft user like you.

    good evening

You can disable the Xbox button from launching the Game Bar in Windows 11 by following these steps:

    Open the Xbox app.

    Click on the Settings icon.

    Select "Devices & Accessories."

Scroll down to the "Bluetooth & other devices" section.

Click on "Bluetooth & other devices."

    Select "Xbox Wireless Controller."

Scroll down to the "Device settings" section.

Turn off the toggle switch next to "Open Game bar using Xbox button on a controller."

This should stop the Xbox button (or A button) from launching the Game Bar on Windows 11.

holding x button in game opens up another screen

Are you playing on Windows 10 or Xbox One?

If on Xbox One, I would recommend checking out the
    Xbox Acessories app
for if it's configured to open the guide when you hold the button down.

If on Windows 10, then I would recommend checking out the Game Bar settings in Settings > Gaming > Game Bar and see if you have a shortcut set to open that app.

Might also be an issue with the controller, where pressing the X button also inadvertently 'presses' the Guide button on the controller?

Anyways, let us know if you have any questions about that.

    Best of luck!

    xbox game bar

Hello Rythxms, My name is David. I am an independent advisor, happy to help you today.

You can try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Enable Game Bar: Open the Settings app on your Windows 11 PC by pressing Windows key + I. Click on "Gaming" in the Settings menu. On the left-hand side, click on "Game Bar." Make sure the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game Bar" option is turned on.

    2. Check Game Bar keyboard shortcuts: Press Windows key + I to open the Settings app. Navigate to "Gaming" and then click on "Game Bar." Under the "Keyboard shortcuts" section, ensure that the shortcut for opening the Game Bar is set to Windows key + G. If it's not set correctly, you can click on the shortcut field and press Windows key + G to set it.

    3. Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can sometimes interfere with the Game Bar functionality. Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (such as NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) and download the latest drivers for your specific graphics card model.

    4. Restart your PC: A simple restart can often resolve temporary issues with the Game Bar or other system functions. Try restarting your computer and check if the Game Bar functions are restored.

    5. Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter: Windows 11 includes a built-in troubleshooter for resolving issues with Windows Store apps. Press Windows key + I to open the Settings app, then go to "System" > "Troubleshoot." Under "Other troubleshooters," click on "Windows Store Apps" and follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

    6. Reset the Game Bar app: If the above steps don't work, you can try resetting the Game Bar app. Open the Settings app, go to "Apps" > "Apps & features." Scroll down and click on "Game Bar." Click on the "Advanced options" link. In the Game Bar settings page, click on the "Reset" button.

    Best regards.
