Game bar for pc not saving captures

When I go to record a clip on the game bar for pc it says it records the clip but it doesn’t show it in the files or when I press to view my captures. It still says on the right it’s recording or taking a screenshot but afterwards the clip or picture never appears. The buttons aren’t grayed out or crossed out and where working fine before.

If you're referring to the Xbox Game Bar on PC, it saves to your hard drive as default. If you go to the Settings app on your PC, click on 'Gaming', and then on the side bar, click on 'Captures'. That will show you where the Xbox Game Bar recordings and
screenshots are stored.

I found the videos, they were saving to the file but at the bottom instead of in order at the top. Still didn’t show in the game bar gallery though unless I named it.

Hey there!

When you started capturing your clips did you start capturing them in the external HD, or did you save them to the default file drive which is C:\users\%username%\Videos\Captures?

I would suggest trying to capture a new game clip without your external HD plugged in to see what it says when it asks you where you want to save the clips.

Also what do you see when you open up your captures folder from the Game Bar?

To see where your captures are saved, open Game bar and select the My captures folder, or press the
Start button, choose Settings > Gaming >
Captures. Press the Open folder button to see your captures in File Explorer.

By default, game clips and screenshots are saved in your Videos folder (named
Captures). The Captures folder can be moved to different places on your PC.

There should also be a help link when you select Captures that says "How to save to a different folder".

Try that out and let us know what happens.

If you haven't already, I recommend that you review the
Troubleshooting Xbox Game Bar on Windows 10 article and see if some of these techniques work for you.

Additionally, it would be worth trying to save your captures to a different location and see if that helps alleviate the message that states there is nothing to record.

Hi Ma Ho,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums.

As you have stated, broadcasting directly to Mixer has been removed from the Xbox Game Bar in a recent update for the Game Bar. There is no indication the feature will come back to the Game Bar, so as of now the feature is gone for good to make room for
other more requested features.

As far as why your captures are not showing in that window, have you restarted your PC and checked the Microsoft Store app if there are any recent updates for Xbox Game Bar? Have you tried changing the location of where the captures are saved?
