Game Bar for PC capture files

    Spent 2 hours on the phone with a techie only to be hung up on..

    well essentially what is occuring is that in my settings my captures are set to go to the video folder in my C drive.. but when i open the over lay it shows only files in my D drive and when i click to go to the file it literally just brings me to my entire
    D drive.. so instead of showing my clips it instead shows thumbnails and icons of everything on my computer thats been installed through my d drive, mean while whenever I take clips the clips still save to the C drive videos folder.

    any help would be appreciated, this has been an ongoing issue since May when there was an update that took place ( which the techie says i dont have even though it took 5 hours to update)

    If I understand what you are talking about, it sounds like you need to empty the capture folder on your PC. The Game Bar will show the files that are in the capture folder. When you moved the capture folder it sounds like it changed the modified date
    on your old captures so they all showed up as recent again.

    my point was since xbox game bar is capable of screen capture can I just have it capture my screen i.e. just as a screen capture to show for instance where saves and files are or just screen capture on windows explorer to show where to move files...
    etc not just for games

    If you're referring to the Xbox Game Bar on PC, it saves to your hard drive as default. If you go to the Settings app on your PC, click on 'Gaming', and then on the side bar, click on 'Captures'. That will show you where the Xbox Game Bar recordings and
    screenshots are stored.

    Hey there!

    When you started capturing your clips did you start capturing them in the external HD, or did you save them to the default file drive which is C:\users\%username%\Videos\Captures?

    I would suggest trying to capture a new game clip without your external HD plugged in to see what it says when it asks you where you want to save the clips.

    Also what do you see when you open up your captures folder from the Game Bar?

    To see where your captures are saved, open Game bar and select the My captures folder, or press the
    Start button, choose Settings > Gaming >
    Captures. Press the Open folder button to see your captures in File Explorer.

    By default, game clips and screenshots are saved in your Videos folder (named
    Captures). The Captures folder can be moved to different places on your PC.

    There should also be a help link when you select Captures that says "How to save to a different folder".

    Try that out and let us know what happens.

    No, you can only upload content from your Xbox or clips captured with the Xbox Game Bar on PC.
