    Known Issues

I have noticed there is a newer Firmware for the 7390 listed, but it is German ... would this be ok for an Australian Fritz?

    Hi there Trained,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about the issue with the network connectivity on the Xbox One X.

I recommend to try Clearing the Mac addresses on the Xbox.

Check out these articles: Network settings on Xbox Oneand
I get an error message when I run the ‘Test network connection’ on Xbox One.

    Try this:

    • Select Settings on the Xbox
    • Select Network
    • Select Network Settings
    • Select Advance Settings
    • Alternate Mac address
    • Select Clear
    • Select Restart

This step will restart the console. When it reboots, Select Network >Select Network Settings > Set up wireless network.

Try this out and let us know the results.

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Double NAT detected

Yes, that does clarify things, thanks. I'll lead with the answer, then give you a more complete background explanation if you're interested.

Switch the Amplifi into bridge mode. Your FRITZ!Box is acting as a router. You can confirm this by logging in to the FRITZ!Box and then going to Home Network > Network > Network Settings. You'll see under Operating Mode that "Internet router" is selected,
rather than "IP client". (As it happens my own router is also a FRITZ!Box, that's how I can tell you exactly what to do here!)

You asked what the Amplifi should be connected to. It will work perfectly well as it is, connected to the NETGEAR, but ideally I would personally prefer for it to be connected directly to the FRITZ!Box (on LAN2-4). This would be a more resilient network
configuration in the unlikely event of the NETGEAR developing a fault. Definitely do not connect the Amplifi to your modem (Genexis). The only device connected to the modem should be your router.

    Now, the explanation:

You have fibre broadband. The fibre optic line from your broadband provider comes into your home and is plugged into the Genexis box. This is basically your modem. Its function is to convert your broadband connection from fibre to Ethernet: fibre in from
your broadband provider, Ethernet out to your broadband router. The Genexis is connected via an Ethernet lead to your FRITZ!Box.

The FRITZ!Box is your broadband router. You could think of it as the gateway between your home network and the broadband network. It is responsible for handling all the internet traffic moving in and out of your home. This includes doing NAT, which is
a technique that allows multiple devices to share the same broadband connection.

Every home network must have a NAT router to be able to access the internet. If the home network has two devices acting as NAT routers, simple activity like web browsing will continue to work but certain types of network activity will break, as you've
seen on your Xbox. The correct configuration for a home network (except in a very few highly specialised cases) is to have one and only one NAT router device.

On the FRITZ!Box, your broadband comes in on LAN1 and goes out to the home on LAN2-4. Since these three Ethernet LAN ports weren't enough, your father got the NETGEAR to provide more. The NETGEAR basically takes one Ethernet connection and splits it into
more Ethernet ports, rather like a trailing socket does with electricity.

The FRITZ!Box itself provides Wi-Fi, but some people find that the Wi-Fi built in to their broadband router is not good enough to provide strong wireless coverage through the entire home. This is where your Amplifi comes in. The primary purpose of Amplifi
kit is to upgrade your Wi-Fi. However, the Amplifi box is also designed to be able to replace your broadband router. This is why the Amplifi does NAT routing, and it's how you've ended up with double NAT on your home network. (You wouldn't want the Amplifi
to replace your FRITZ!Box in your case, because you'd lose access to the telephone line that the FRITZ!Box apparently provides on the FON1 port.

(If I might ask, strictly out of curiosity, which broadband provider do you have?)

Set static IP, Xbox changes IP right back. Thus preventing me from connecting.

    Additional information:

DMZ is called "exposed host" in the Fritz Box.
