    Has anybody at Xbox thought about letting us play free games without gold? I mean Sony and Nintendo are doing it, why can't Microsoft do it? Even if it's only just for the quarantine/pandemic.

    Xbox Live Gold is ONLY required for playing online Multiplayer, participating in parties and getting and playing the free Games with Gold games.

    If you purchased a game digitally, you can download that without a Gold membership. You'll just be unable to play the online multiplayer part (if the game has online Multiplayer).

    Thank you for your post. Games on the store that are free to play are available for download can be played in singleplayer without Xbox Live Gold. If the game has multiplayer features an Xbox Live Gold subscription is needed to play.
