Framerate suddenly goes down on Forza 5 and Halo Infinite

Thanks for reaching out to the Xbox forums! I am sorry to hear that you struggle with Frame Rate issues on both Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. So, to make sure I fully understand and provide the best possible solution for you, I want to reiterate what you mentioned in your post.

• When you play Forza 5 or Halo Infinite, are you experiencing dips in your framerate (FPS) from as high as 60 down to 15-5 fps?
  
  • What resolution and preset of graphics are you using?
    
  • Did you let Forza 5 do its auto-config of your PC and see if those settings helped?
    

Would you please make sure the following are good to go with your device?

1. All Windows OS updates are current.
   
2. Ensure that your Nvidia GPU drivers are updated via Geforce Now
   
3. Use the Geforce now optimization tool to configure games and see if that helps.
   
4. Please make sure that in the game menu, the game is recognizing the dedicated graphics card RTX 2080
   
5. Check to see if you might have any anti-virus or additional software running in the background that could take up resources.
   

• On the Windows Start menu ( Windows Icon on the lower-left corner of the screen), Right-click and choose Task Manager.
  
• Select more details if the window is minimized and then click on Start-up
  
• Here you can see all programs that are running in the background when you start up your PC
  
• Highlight the program you want to close out and select disable
  
• Once you have closed out so software, you do not want to take up resources. Close task manager
  

Frame Rate vs. Refresh rate:

• Two different things.
  
• CPU/GPU controls FPS. The more powerful your CPU and GPU are, the more frames they can generate per second.
  
• While Refresh rate is measured in frequency (Hz) which is the number of times per second your monitor can redraw the screen.
  
• You can have higher FPS and lower refresh rate, which will not impede your game performance; you might see screen tear, and Vsync helps with that.
  

Finally, not all games are made the same, and with an RTX 2080, you may not be able to run all games at 4k 60+ if you are trying to run the game. You may have to tweak settings or use DLSS if available. The monitor you are using, is it 1080p 165hz or 1440hz? I would do unlimited FPS to allow the game more freedom with the FPS and then see if that works. As sometimes, finding out what is causing performance issues can be a tedious process that requires tinkering with the game settings and other things on the PC, which I mentioned.
