Forza Horizon 4 game crashes when entering speed/drift zones (PC)

I've got the exact same issue. exception code: 0xc0000096. My game crashes every time I enter a speed/drift zone. I've tried everything. Got the same response from forza support blaming Microsoft. I'm hoping they release a fix soon. Maybe it has something do to with the release of Forza Horizon 5 and this bug is happening on both FH4 and FH5? Who knows... it's very frustrating.

This is a known issue as mentioned here:

Cross-Platform:

• Crashes when joining a party/convoy.
  

Also crashes on PC when entering a Speed Zone or Drift Zone:

• Crash - PC - When entering a Speed Zone or Drift zone players games will crash.
  

^This explains why your friends also experience this behaviour when playing online. This would need to be resolved in an update/patch, and it’s unlikely any other solutions would help.

What devices are your friends playing FH4 on? Are they on Xbox console (Xbox One/Series X|S), Windows as well, or various devices?

As far as troubleshooting, you’ve already tried a lot of options that should’ve, theoretically, resolved this. Please refer to this guide:

As a temporary workaround - if you have Game Pass Ultimate, you can always play FH4 (and FH5) through cloud gaming (an internet connection to Xbox Live as well as being in a supported country/region is required) on a compatible smartphone, tablet, Xbox console or PC. There’s the option to play via the browser at https://www.xbox.com/play or in the Xbox Game Pass app

The crashes may or may not occur when playing from a different device and/or network, and hopefully there’s an improvement soon. It’s possible that you would be able to successfully access and play online through cloud gaming, as this doesn’t depend on hardware but would still connect to the Forza servers the same way. Also, try to see if there’s any significant difference when joining a party at different times or with different players on certain devices.

I would recommend to post on the Forza Community Forums where you may receive additional advice regarding this.

You should contact the developer, Playground Games, to properly address this as it’s their responsibility to resolve any in-game issues. If this persists, submit a request to Forza Support so they can assist further.
