I can't offer any solutions sadly.

Do you have a spare hard drive, or at least one that is not used much and can be wiped? If so, then a possible solution would be to install Windows on that drive and have a dual boot system so you keep you current install as it is and then have the second one for Forza (and any other games that have issues). I had issues running a game from 2004 (something on my system was interfering) so set up a second Windows install on another drive and it worked fine.

Obviously, if you don't have a spare drive, that's different. However, you can get a internal 240GB SSD for as little as £20 which would be plenty for the game. Here's one example:

    240GB Integral SSD

Anyway, just thought it worth mentioning

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Playground to fix anything....they are barely fixing their current "new" game, much less the older one. Unfortunately, this is what happens when a Developer stops showing the slightest interest in getting their product to work properly....all they are interested now is pushing their weekly/monthly content for their "player hours" statistics. Their decline coincided with being bought by Microsoft (will be interesting to see what Activision does once MS buy them, although they are messing things up nicely anyway!) and has just continued.

To cover some of the rest:

    - You can run a Dual-boot system without issue as the Windows licence is tied to the machine rather than the specific iteration of Windows...as I said, I ran Windows 10 on 2 separate drives for months without any issues.

    - The other viable alternative is to buy an Internal SSD like I noted above and then buy a caddy for it...after all, external drives are just internal drives housed in a case of some sort. You could also maybe get a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter to run it through. When I replaced my old machine, I used an adapter to transfer the data from my old SSD to my new system and the speeds were really good. Of course, this is not a small amount of money for a game that has a limited shelf life (probably less than 18 months before it goes EOL)

    Hi, thanks for the answer.

So far I can't add any additional drives to my pc as it's running 8 sata drives and one m.2 ssd already (some of the "expensive" validated software requires a drive on it's own to keep it's data integrity and then there is my OS on the m.2 and the games on a ssd). I was thinking about dual boot, but again, it won't work in my case due to the hard drives. Also, I am not sure how dual-boot affects the windows licence, I assume only one of the installations can be active although they are running on the same machine? Loosing the active state on the OS with my validated software is a no-go, it would require a new validation.

So far I gave up on FH4 as this computer will be retired soon. So I will have to wait until my new machine arrives to play again. But that's just my personal decision. Until then FH3 and maybe soon FH5 will do the job.

What I want to achieve is what I mentioned in my previous post: Microsoft needs to fix the update process of the Xbox/Store applications so this "random crash to desktop" in games like FH4 will never happen again.....it's a serious issue that can/will affects all Windows Store Apps, free or paid.

On the other hand: Playground Games should participate, as it is "their" game.....with the bug on the version distributed by Microsoft.

Microsoft must be aware that this is in fact a problem, and neither the windows repair tools, nor the reinstallation of the game I purchased and downloaded with the help of the windows store will help. The latest update (from ~Nov 21 to now) affected an incredible amount of players, most just "upgrade" their hardware in believe it became to old/broken. Others that just reinstall on the slightest issue did so. But again, in my case that's no option due to expensive licensing and machine/software validation.

So far Windows 10 did an incredible job in being update friendly (in my case), this computer is running since 2015 with it's first installation and this is the first OS-based issue. And sadly the only way seems to be a full wipe and reinstall of windows.

Sorry for my wall of text complaining, but so far the issue is being ignored and that makes me a bit angry. My hope is, that at some point someone will investigate this issue properly as Playground Games just kept the bug as solved with a rollback to ancient 1809 because....it worked 3 years ago. Also, other users with this problem might find this thread or the reddit thread so they at least know what is causing the problem!

Also: Internet is still "new land" in germany ;) even with my now maxed out 12mbit internet connection.....FH4 alone will take DAYS to download

    Best regards

Amazing answer....not. We are talking about FH4, not 5 as mentioned in the link. And even then, the issue is NOT mentioned there.

I have the exact same problem on my machine. Entering the speed zone => crash.

Regarding the problem itself: the crash isn't new to Horizon 4, the exact same issue was there over a year ago and even 2 years ago, sadly it was marked as "solved" by peforming a rollback to Window 10 1809, there is no way I am going back to such an old version!

So far, the only solution is to make a clean install of windows (won't do that as just the download of forza will take me full 3 days, other software will take about 2 weeks of just downloading, and since they are analysis software have to be validated which takes again some weeks and some hundret euros on fees....NOPE, thats no option for me) or to make a new, LOCAL windows account and install it there. A reinstallation under an existing account won't fix it, an installation under a new local windows account works.

So far, the community (mainly reddit and the forza community forum) came to the conclusion that the problem is caused by the windows updates and the windows store or xbox app. The problem usually occurs after some windows updates were installed, but Forza Horizon 4 is not getting any updates to fix the "new" issues.

Some users claim, that you can fix it by making a new local windows account and login into the xbox services/windows store with your account, than all you have to do is to create a new shortcut to the Forza exe and copy it to your existing windows account. I say "claim", as this won't work on my machine.

And just for the reference, here are the community result so far:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/forza/comments/o7qr6a/fh4_crashing_upon_entering_speed_zone/

    https://forums.forzamotorsport.net/...--it-s-impossible-to-enter-in-speed-zone.aspx

So please....we need a working solution for this kind of problems as they always come back.

And please, ss written on this page: https://support.forzamotorsport.net/hc/en-us/articles/360001991068-FH4-Known-Issues ......the rollback to an ANCIENT Windows Version is no option. Same with reinstallation......you can't expect to make a whole new windows installation because of Windows update messing things up again.....

    Best regards
