Fortnite updates and how to control when they happen ?

My son plays Fortnite on his XBOX and frequently complains that he is interrupted playing by the game updating

I am not a player but I do use computers and other devices a lot and I know that I can control the times when they do their updates so I am thinking that we are missing a setting that can stop these updates from happening automatically and actually control
when they occur ?

XboxOne suddenly switches off when I play Fortnite

Hi, I'm using an Xbox One and I have the following problem. When I use Fortnite it suddenly switches off after a few minutes. Both the console and the LED on the power supply switch off. It only happens with Fortnite, with the other games everything works
normally. I've already tried to uninstall Fortnite and install it again, but the problem remains. Do you know how I can solve it?

You can check to see if you have automatic updates setup - Settings > all settings > Console info & updates. I have mine set to

instant on mode so it downloads the updates, but doesn't apply them until I launch the game.

Typically updates will be done before a game is launched. If they are done during a game it's because the update hasn't been installed within days of it needing to be done.

 

Are you saying that what might be happening is that the downloads do not start until he launches the game but that with INSTANT ON mode the DOWNLOAD part will take place in background without taking time from his game play time but he will still need to
wait for each update to take place and apply it before he can play but at least this saves waiting for the DOWNLOAD part of the update ?

As Sara has stated above, set the console to
instant on mode, and this will keep updates going while the console is shut down.

Make sure to Uncheck mark "When console is off, turn off storage" this will keep updates going through even when the console is shut down, but usually if it's a Big patch update it may ask you to manually update the content.

if the game needs an update is impossible to control the update here on xbox, on pc or on PS....

 

Not looking to be able to CONTROL the update - looking to PERMIT the update (autoupdate) whether my son is using the console or not

It sounds as if INSTANT ON will allow this to happen at a power cost

We understand that you don't want the console to automatically apply updates.

This can be applied by following this process:

1. Use the Xbox button to bring up the Guide Menu
2. Scroll to the right and find Settings
3. From here find System
4. Select Updates
5. To the right should be an option to Enable/Disable the
   Games & Apps from being kept up to date

This should stop the updates from automatically applying, although when an update becomes available, there will be a notification to do so upon launching/attempting to launch the game.

Hey there, as Fortnite is an Online game, the updates are necessary. You won't be able to play the game otherwise.
