Fortnite party play mic problems?

My 10 year old reports that when he is in a Fortnite "party play" (his words) with others they can't hear him unless he is talking so loudly that he's basically yelling into the mic. It seems to be picking up the voice as indicated on screen. It's un-muted,
volume adjusted correctly, and all Xbox One privacy and gaming settings have been checked and allowed as should be needed. Have tried both a Corsair and Turtle Beach head set with same results. Anyone have a solution or thought?

Hi Chris, thanks for the reply. Yes, he is in an Xbox Live party and it is his friends that cannot hear him in the party. Again, he has to basically yell into the mic for them to hear him. He is definitely not using the in game chat. He has used the other
controller with the same result. I did just replace the batteries in the controllers as well with no change.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community for helpful advice you may want to try and resolve this problem.

I can totally see how this headset and game chat problem could be frustrating.

I would say that if you haven't yet, and this is the only game being affected, you might want to try the steps outlined in our

Xbox Game Freeze Solution and see if that helps positively affect the situation.

When you get a chance, give that a shot and let us know if that helped.

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. There are a few things we would like to know in order to have a better understanding of this issue.

When your son is chatting with his friends, is he in an Xbox live party? That would be a private room/party where you can only chat with/hear other members in the party.

Or, is he using in game chat? This means he is not in an Xbox live party, and is able to talk to all players in the game lobby he is playing in.

Since this issue is happening on 2 different mics, have you been able to try out a different controller?

This same issue has been ongoing for months. My son can hear his friends but his mic doesnt work.

The “fix” where you turn off the mic and push to talk in fortnite settings would occasionaly work bit now doesnt.

all other games and apps work with the mic.

The problem persists on another xbox signed in with his profile, using a different headset, so this is not a hardware issue.

other profiles on his xbox have no issues with sound/mic

this is an issue effecting certian profiles accross fortnite only party chat, xbox party chat works fine, which cant be used for crossplatform party play.

Maybe going into the Fortnite settings and checking which mic it is using? Also maybe check the permissions for Fortnite. I dont play Fortnite so idk if this will work, these are problems I have encountered with other apps.
