Fortnite Cross-play with Child Accounts

Can you explain your logic here " The child accounts are there to keep your kids save and they won't be if they start cross playing Fortnite with PC, Playstation, Switch and mobile players. " as aside from it being a numbers game how does cross
platform expose your kids to any greater risk than online gameing on xbox itself , espcaillay if teh accounts set to friends only

Well, just imagine when your kids are playing fortnite with Playstation players. We all know Playstation uses the F-word a lot also the N-word and the B-word and even some other words. You don't want your kids exposed to that.

It's just not save and a child account protects them from all that bad influence

I have also troubleshooted this issue in thorough with as many combinations and scenarios as I can think of.

As Brad from MS and someone else has stated, the issue is definitely on the birth date the xbox account is initially created on.

If the xbox account is initially created with a birth date that is 12 yrs of age or younger, that account will NOT have access to cross-platform.

If the xbox account is initially created with a birth date of 13 yrs of age or older, that account WILL have access to cross-platform.

I have 2 child accounts that I created just to troubleshoot this and those were my findings. Modifying the birth dates after the initial creation of the xbox profile, will NOT affect the out come of access to cross-platform.

Hopefully MS will be able to remedy this soon, or I'm just going to have to mange 2 xbox child accounts at a time just to allow cross-platform play for Fortnite.

So let me get this straight ... does it have to do with the age when the account is set up or their actual age? My son is 12 and we set up his account with his actual, correct age. He turns 13 later this month. Are you saying that when he turns 13 magically
cross-platform Fortnite will be a reality? Or because he was set up when he was 11 or 12 he's locked out forever as long as his account is a child account? So we would have to start all over with an adult Microsoft account and an adult Epic account?

I have the exact same question... my son turns 13 in a few months, will cross platform just start working? Or is he "locked out forever"? Unfortunately, he has had this account for several years now (with over 200 wins) and it would be a shame to have
to start form scratch. Does anyone have experience with this? I just went through the unpleasant scenario of trying to change his birth date and remove him from the family (with the naive idea that this could work) and getting stuck in a remove from family/can't
sign in without an adult/automatically back in the family repeating loop. If it wont magically work when he is 13, I guess we might as well cut and run...? This whole thing seems poorly considered. Would love to hear from someone who has had an account mature
past 12 years... Thanks!

Well, all I can say is that, like so many others, I have been trying to sort Xbox cross platform out for many many months with an increasingly grumpy 12yr old son who seemed to think he was the only one for which I had applied parental controls that deliberately
prevented his cross platform functionality.

It seems the case that when a child reaches 13 then cross platform bursts into life - this appears to be the case for one of my son's friends in the last week.

So, what I did was create a second Microsoft account for my son (and added it to our Family) but this time made my son 1 year older (so he appears 13 already) - we then used that to create a fresh Xbox user account and then linked that to his existing Epic
Games account (relatively straightforward but of course shouldn't be necessary) ... and it worked and he now has the cross platform option and can see his Epic Friends so all good, except progress and status against all other games are now unavailable unless
he reverts to using his original Xbox user.

BUT .... now he has 2 active Xbox user accounts rather than one so where I had set screen time limits and other controls I now need to manage those across 2 instead of one which does complicate things (and AGAIN, shouldn't be necessary)

Atleast I still have some parental controls and didn't have to make an adult account for him.

A workaround but one I am prepared to live with until he is actually 13, quite soon, and then, hopefully, I can revert to his original Xbox user.

My Sons child account is age 13 going on 14 and we still have the same problem. He plays Fortnight on MY PC to get around the XBOX Live Issue.

It's a giant pain in the ass.

As near as I can tell the only fix this to give him a completely new adult account with now restrictions.

Hello there. The issue might not be with the accounf but settings on fortnite. There is a bug on fortnite where you are not able to cross-play with others without enabling and it sometimes doesn’t appear in the settings

Is there a spot where we can get the latest on this issue, or is this it? I saw another post about a petition and an "official statement" from MS? Happy to open a support ticket with MS if it will help. Is there an existing ticket I can link it to?

watch here as this is as official as it gets for now. To be frank this only just got noted by MS less than week or so back (if that) so they need time to review , chat to EPIC and come back, so stay here keep posting and keep the pressure up

am i right in thinking that a hypothetical solution to this issue would be to associate the epic account (containing fortnite progress) with a family type account in playstation or switch without any loss? as this is a microsoft bug then sony and nintendo
don’t have the same issue?

I have not stated that we are blaming anyone they are working on a fix. What I stated in that post was my opinion nothing more. You can contact epic games to see if they are able to move the epic account to a different Gamertag.

Because of this issue with cross platform playing on Fortnite in a child’s account, is there a workaround?

Can we use the adult account and sign into Fortnite using the childs details so we can play with the saved game play up to now? That way we can play cross platform on adult’s account?

play Fortnite with PC users is a fairly new feature. The link we provided contains general information about cross-platform functionality The way to allow cross-platform play is a setting within the Fortnite options menu. Unless, the Xbox account that is
attempting to use cross-platform is a child account. If your daughter is utilizing a child account, we recommend allowing permission to use cross-platform play through

the parental settings by logging in to the adult account. Be sure to let us know the results!

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Which game is the child attempting to play that is cross platform? The only game that is available for cross platform play between Xbox and PlayStation is Fortnite. If the game attempting to be played is
Fortnite, child accounts do not have the ability to cross platform play at the moment. This is a decision made by Microsoft. The reason is that Microsoft is currently working on adding a parental setting that allows the parent to enable cross platform play
for the child account. We do not have an update on when this feature will become available, but we are aware of it and are working on it diligently. We will post an update on the Xbox forums about adding that feature to the parental settings as soon as we
get another update. We look forward to hearing from you again.

I read in another forum that all the Fornite purchases etc are stored in the epic account, not MS so disconnecting from the kids exiting Xbox one and reconnecting it to an adult one for cross-platform play works but I've never tested it. If I find
the link I'll post it here for those willing to try caveated by I take no responsibility if it fails

I am also about 99% sure this is true. The issue comes in that if you create another gamer tag, the data stored for OTHER games, not named Fortnite, do not transfer. Long story short, linking an epic account to another "non-child" gamer tag is a horrible
band aid for the reason I just explained and also the lack of age restriction control on the new account just to get Fortnite to work cross platform.

Microsoft needs to fix this. I think everyone's anger is stemming from the fact that cross platform has been a thing for 6 months and is just NOW being "worked on" by the MS team...

Problem solved...? Who is going to reimburse me and my son (he has been spending a lot of his allowance on Fortnite battlepass, emotes, etc.)?

If that is the only option than I feel that we should get reimbursed for those expenses AND somehow get his previous achievements ported to a new adult account.

For me, the biggest issue is that MS was not clear / honest / open enough about the uncontrollable restrictions that a child account comes with. We were misled in thinking that we as parents would have full control. Now we have spent money on games and DLC
without getting our full money’s worth. This is unacceptable. No one would accept that with any other purchase or subscription.
