Fortnite Cross-play with Child Accounts

it is actually quite upsetting how many kids aren't affected by this issue because they already have adult accounts!

Xbox one cross platform play on Fortnite

Because of this issue with cross platform playing on Fortnite in a child’s account, is there a workaround?

Can we use the adult account and sign into Fortnite using the childs details so we can play with the saved game play up to now? That way we can play cross platform on adult’s account?

BUG - Cross platform play does not enable for child accounts no matter what settings you set. This needs EPIC/MS attention

 

It is very interesting that it is "being worked on now" when this has been a problem for 6 months.

On an interesting side note, my son and myself were able to play together from roughly 8-9pm CST on 9/26. I am not sure why it worked, but I invited him from my PC account and he was able to join. On 10/1 we tried again, and he received the beloved "Cross-platform
is not allowed" message. SMH.

I don't know if it was a fluke, or if they are trial and erroring this thing to a fix... Either way, if anyone from MS is watching this thread, please reach out to me and I can provide user info so hopefully you can see why it worked for us at this time
in logs or something.

 

Hey whether the noise has got to the right level or if its a reaction to other changes in the cross platform play world who knowsim just happy they have accepted it

 

yes it does somewhat fly in the face of the protecions we have all been told are needed

 

After sony announced crossplay I Finally resubscribed to xbox live after months of it being idle so i could play with my kids. Paid for a years worth straight up. Only to run into this problem and find this thread. Awesome. Any new on this fix yet?

 

Nothing yet , though Brad only responded late last wek saying that MS have accepted it as an issue. He has said he will be back with updates when he has anything to share

 

This is an annoying problem, especially when 90% of all gamers have ps4s in Sweden and my son is the only one in his class that has an Xbox one. Please fix this!

 

I have also troubleshooted this issue in thorough with as many combinations and scenarios as I can think of.

As Brad from MS and someone else has stated, the issue is definitely on the birth date the xbox account is initially created on.

If the xbox account is initially created with a birth date that is 12 yrs of age or younger, that account will NOT have access to cross-platform.

If the xbox account is initially created with a birth date of 13 yrs of age or older, that account WILL have access to cross-platform.

I have 2 child accounts that I created just to troubleshoot this and those were my findings. Modifying the birth dates after the initial creation of the xbox profile, will NOT affect the out come of access to cross-platform.

Hopefully MS will be able to remedy this soon, or I'm just going to have to mange 2 xbox child accounts at a time just to allow cross-platform play for Fortnite.

 

Do we know if Microsoft is actively working on this?

Is there, apart from the petition (which I signed), any other thing we can do? I looked at their customer care service, but that is only available during office hours (when I work too...).

Like I said before, I really feel cheated with the child account option. As a parent I am NOT in full control. I can allow my 9 year old to play a 18+ game (e.g. Farcry or GTA) offline, but he can’t use the FIFA mobile app because he’s < 13 yo. I even talked
to EA customer care about this, and they said they can’t allow him online access because he’s too young and has a child account. Again, complete BS. I want control!

Ps. Can’t change him to a new adult account either. He has invested too much (and Fortnite and other games / achievements).

We have parental settings and child accounts. Unfortunately, if a developer like EA sets a limit as to which age groups are allowed to play on their servers there is nothing Microsoft can do about this. That is implemented by them and them alone. As of late
a lot of developers have been doing this due to all the issues with game addiction etc. I agree with you as a parent myself it should be our choice. You can submit your ideas to EA about the ratings and age restrictions. As for a way for him to play, you
could make him an adult account, with this you are limited as to the control. You could keep email

/password to yourself also cant limit purchases so could buy gift cards to add on the account for purchases instead of a credit/debit card.

I understand your point about other developers implementing age restrictions as they see fit, but my point is that I am stuck now. I can’t change my son’s account to an adult account and I can’t create a new adult account without losing all his achievements
and in-game purchases like in Fortnite. Why can’t MS flip the switch at the backend and make him an adult?

Also error reporting is terrible when a child accounts gets blocked. When he tries to stream on Mixer on Xbox the error is “There has been an invalid HTTP request” (or something similar in English - we see the error in Dutch). This should be more clear.

Last thing: why is my son able to do Fortnite cross-play on Windows with the same Epic account and the same Microsoft account (as he uses for Xbox)? Makes no sense to me.
