Fortnite Cross-play with Child Accounts

We totally understand the frustration in all situations. (note this is my opinion)The issue with Fortnite I think is on both sides Microsoft and Fortnite. We are hoping they find a fix for this soon, as a lot of my kids friends unable to play due to this
issue, and many others.

As for a switch, I wish there was but due to the way it has been set up, no one in support or anything can see the birthdate on Xbox.com, that is the one that is permanent. Then the problem arises when people do change on the Microsoft website that birthdates
don't match and cause errors or other issues. As long as I can remember it has been a fixed birthdate on Xbox.com I was going to make my kids child accounts when they started playing but decided to do adult right off the start.

It could also be due to a strict reading by a game dev of COPA rules against advertising to children under 13

 

I feel like you are now blaming EA and Epic for a faulty (my opinion) child account.

Can you please explaine what the problem on both sides is so we can understand why it doesn't work ?

Why can I not allow my kids to play crossplatform Fortnite ?

I was hopefull it was going to be fixed but now you are saying that it can not be fixed becouse of a problem on 'both' sides

 

I'll second this. I was hopeful, when Brad told flipside that MS were aware and working on this issue, that we might see a fix soon. Now you are saying that it is an EPIC problem and that your personal solution has been to set up a child with an adult account?
That's an about turn and not acceptable. Given the number of posters who have been told by EPIC that it is a MS problem, and the inconsistency around child accounts working cross platform from PC, I think a representative from MS should take this up with EPIC,
work together and get a fix out for all those respponsible and well-intended parents who have their children set up as children!

 

Sigh, it does sound like it's falling back into the he said she said blame game we have seen in the past, however to try and keep on the positive side Brad did say that it was his opinion that the issue is on both sides ,now how based on knowledge and
how much on experience this opinion was based we don't know. I live in hope that as it has been recognised that MS are working WITH EPIC as per my original request to both sides to find a fix.

Let's not get disheartened and angry just yet, let us hold fire until we see what the official statement on this is.

 

Why wait for an official statement? It's just not possible to cross platform with a child acc. And a statement isn't going to fix that

The only fix is removing the child account and making a normal adult account for your kids and have fun playing EA, Minecraft and Fortnite and other games without any dumb problems.

Yes, your kids will lose achievements but at least they can have fun playing with friends and family

I think you have my reposne mixed up , if you read what i wrote I said before getting angry I didn't mention anywhere that I wasnt doing anything to get my kids working amd playing with friends. What I am after is an actual fix for everyone not a half hearted
workaround leading to multiple accounts for differnet things. As we currentlly we have MS accepting that its an issue , which is more than we have before, and a statement that its being looked into I think waiting until this is solved before we restart the
getting shouty bit seems sensible.

I know Brad has made a statement based on his opinion and this may have an element of whats to come in it but I really hope that the outcome isnt back to square 1 or indeed a shrug of shoulders and both sides walking away, as if so it would be a real let
down to customers and bad press for companies that keep trying to put forward a view on how much theya re doing to protect the youth of today

 

Problem solved...? Who is going to reimburse me and my son (he has been spending a lot of his allowance on Fortnite battlepass, emotes, etc.)?

If that is the only option than I feel that we should get reimbursed for those expenses AND somehow get his previous achievements ported to a new adult account.

For me, the biggest issue is that MS was not clear / honest / open enough about the uncontrollable restrictions that a child account comes with. We were misled in thinking that we as parents would have full control. Now we have spent money on games and DLC
without getting our full money’s worth. This is unacceptable. No one would accept that with any other purchase or subscription.

I have not stated that we are blaming anyone they are working on a fix. What I stated in that post was my opinion nothing more. You can contact epic games to see if they are able to move the epic account to a different Gamertag.

I read in another forum that all the Fornite purchases etc are stored in the epic account, not MS so disconnecting from the kids exiting Xbox one and reconnecting it to an adult one for cross-platform play works but I've never tested it. If I find the
link I'll post it here for those willing to try caveated by I take no responsibility if it fails

Brad was smart enough to lie about the birtdates of his kids when he created accounts for them.

There is probably nothing MS can do about this right now. The child accounts are there to keep your kids save and they won't be if they start cross playing Fortnite with PC, Playstation, Switch and mobile players.

If you have an Epic account you can just unlink it from your childs account and then link it back to a newly created adult account.

Yes, blame yourself and apologize to your kids for making a mistake and make it up by giving them some V-bucks. They'll be Oké with that

band aid for the reason I just explained and also the lack of age restriction control on the new account just to get Fortnite to work cross platform.

This is some pretty top notch logic going on here. You are trying to fault someone for doing something the right way to protect their kids and also suggested by Microsoft. Then champion the guy who KNEW there were problems so he went around the policies
of the company he represents. This is the equivalent of politicians making laws on healthcare for everyone else but then having their own private care. Insider trading? LOL.

The problem with swapping over to another Xbox account is they loose all the stuff (friends list, game data, ect) other than Fortnite...

EDIT: Also forgot to question how cross platform makes the game less safe? That makes absolutely no sense as well.

expose your kids to any greater risk than online gameing on xbox itself , espcaillay if teh accounts set to friends only
