    Formatting Samsung T7 SSD

I just got my T7, I looked it up online and it says it's formatted to exfat. I'm pretty sure I read that any drive one intends to record gameplay on and then transfer it to PC that it must be formatted to NTFS.

I want to be sure this is true before I go messing with the ssd.

Please and thank you for for any and all help

    :)

    Again thank you Jesse!

Your 1st option did the trick, scared me a bit at 1st, because the T7 is still heading the capture location option, but when I clicked on "Capture Location", I now have 2 options, T7 and Internal.

Thank you again, you guys have been very helpful and patient with a confused scaredy cat.

Hey, pretty sure I'm way more confused than you are.

Jesse, I haven't tried recording or storing files yet. All I'm doing is following the instructions I read online to set up the external drive and to choose "External Storage" over Internal.

The instructions said, "Scroll down to Capture Location, change from Internal to the External drive you have plugged into the usb port on the Xbox. After changing location, a confirmation window appears, click confirm.

    The (expected results) of the above instructions never transpired. Again, the drive didn't show up til I pulled and reinserted the usb cable then held the X on the controller for 10 secs. However, now, only the T7 is available,;

    1. It is not designated as an External or Internal drive

    2. There is no longer an Internal drive option

There is no option to choose Internal or External, now there is only the T7 ssd, which more or less is a contradiction to the instructions.

I don't quite understand, If it shows the T7 on the Xbox, why can't you move the captures on there? It isn't letting you?

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

Yes, that's right. The drive needs to be formatted to NTFS first before using it to record and transfer clips.

    Hope this helps

Yes, you're supposed to format it on the PC

    - Open Windows 10 File Explorer (Windows + E), locate and right-click on the USB drive, select "Format".

    - Set the NTFS as the target file system, tick "Quick Format" and click "Start" to start the formatting.

    - When the process completes, click "OK" to confirm.

If isn't registering on the PC at all then that is a problem with the external drive. You'll need to contact the OEM for further assistance.
