Forgotten Password on account

My sons Xbox has recently been repaired and wiped back to factory settings.

Unfortunately he's forgotten his account password to log back in, can we login via his "gamertag" and reset the password that way, if yes, can someone please explain in simple terms how to do it as we've tried several ways, but never got anywhere.

Please help so we can get him back online.

If you have forgotten the password then can you not use the forgotten username/password option on xbox.com

Sorry to hear that the console was wiped, it usually is part of the repair process,

Another good idea is to go to
https://account.live.com/acsr and see if you could recover it following the prompts.

If you cannot get your password reset link by following any of them or the steps listed, the account might be lost and you would have to create a new one.

Without knowing the email, password or phone number it may be difficult and definitely not something someone in the forums could accomplish.

Use this link and follow the instructions carefully to try and recover the account, if you're still unable to do so then click on the "Contact Us" to talk with an official Microsoft Employee
