Fluctuating download speeds

So I’m on a series x which is direct connected to my Motorola MB8611 modem with a cat 8 Ethernet cable on a 1gb connection with suddenlink and for some reason my download speed fluctuates by an absurdly wide margin. Also it’s worth noting that my Xbox speed test clocks in at about 900mbps.

Now I get that speeds will fluctuate based on peak times and whatnot but my speed can be anywhere from 400mbps or so all the way down to sub mbps, leaning more towards the slow end than I believe to reasonable.

And I’ve already tried open dns, clearing the MAC address, power cycling my modem, and hard restarting my console but nothing seems to help.

Does anyone else have this issue or perhaps a solution?

I've previously had an issue with downloading speeds, however not on a Series X.

Typically, it only occurs around times were the servers could be under heavy load - have you spotted any sort of pattern when your download speeds fluctuate by this wide margin?

If so, I recommend you try and download/install apps or games against those patterns, possibly earlier or later when this issue usually pops up.

Well the thing is I’ve actually never had it fluctuate so much before and I definitely feel like anything below 1mbps is just ridiculous even during peak times.

But the only thing I have changed is that I’ve switched from the pos gateway that suddenlink rented me to the mb8611 which as far as I know should actually be a significant improvement.

This is exactly the issue.

Started this week, fluctuating and slow download speeds, if at all.

frustrating and not addressed.

There are so many variables to download speeds you cant really say one thing will fix it. I know my speeds fluctuate alot
