Flight Simulator 2020, Cirrus SR22, Altimeter Setting, Autopilot and ATC Problem

I stumbled on this by accident, opening a new flight the altimeter setting in the Cirrus was 27.99 and I was 1,900 ft. below field elevation. Not sure how it got there, but I set the Garmin Baro to the ATIS altimeter setting. I loaded 5,000 ft. in the
ALTS and took off, set the VS and climbed. It went straight through 5K and climbed to nearly 7K. Apparently, it was working off the 27.99 altimeter setting. Also, my ATC altitude reports seemed to be generated based on 27.99 so I was reporting the wrong
altitude to ATC. Then I checked the backup altimeter and it was also set to 27.99. I adjusted the backup altimeter to the correct setting and the autopilot descended to 5,000 ft. The Garmin autopilot should be getting its altitude information from the AHRS,
not the backup altimeter. Maybe a leftover from the autopilot working on a standard six-pack panel?

I'm sure the Cirrus procedure is to set both altimeters, but overlooking the standby altimeter setting should not affect normal flight operations. Correct?

Thank you. I got the standby to go to 29.92. I'll wait to see if they fix that bug.

I have the same problem. But I cannot change the Baro setting by using the standby altimeter. It won't move. Any suggestions?

The two altimeters are totally independent. I just used the little curved arrows to turn the dial on the standby altimeter to 29.88 to match the G1000. Both CRS/BARO knobs on the G1000 change the altimeter setting on the PFD. I fly with Garmin avionics
and the autopilot is integrated with the AHRS and the PFD and MFD, etc. This is a bug, one of many I've found.

In the good ol' days, the autopilots had inputs for pitot and static pressures and used them for alt hold, climbs, descents, etc. Which meant you had to manually enter the altimeter setting into the autopilot for ALT Select. Now the systems use the AHRS
to get that information. I've observed that the altimeter settings don't change by much, even in live weather, so you could easily miss this bug under normal flight conditions.

Like I said, I think it's with them, a bit like with autopilot hardware for Pc where the manufacturer had to work together with Ms for Flight Simulator 2020 to make their hardware compatible again.

I love spending nights with friends playing cards while our plane flies across whole countries on autopilot. Flight Simulator has always been a great source of pleasure for me, and no doubt the 2020 version will be great!
