Files still take up hard drive space when I cancel a download with Xbox Game Pass on my PC

According to the explanation you have provided, it seems that you need to rest your device. Restarting your Windows 10 device resets anything running and free some space on your device.

To restart your device, first make sure there's nothing open or unsaved. Then press the Windows button on your device or keyboard, or select the Windows icon in the bottom-left corner of the main screen. Select Power, and then select Restart.

Keep in mind also that the only thing cancelling the subscription does is takes the license to play the games away it does not remove the game from the console so it will still be taking up space on the hard drive for other games that you may own and want
to install.

So if you do cancel the game pass and you do not want the games still taking up space you would need to go in and uninstall the games from the console.

I started the download for Yakuza Kiwami via Game Pass, at around the 27% mark there was an error and the download wouldnt resume, so i cancelled the installation. However the game is still taking up space on my hard drive and the contents havent been removed.
Everytime i restart the Xbox app the game reappers in the sidebar on the left with the error.

I even uninstalled the xbox app but the disc space has still not been freed and the game has not been removed.

I am having the same exact issue A solution would be appreciated.

the missing memory is caused due to the file system, however it should not be 6GB, on a PC its around 10% of the hard drive e.g. a 1T hard drive (1024GB) will only have around 911GB due to the file system taking up the space.

(this is bassed on a PC hard drive and not the Xbox HDD, but 6GB sound a bit excessive for the system files

There is no way to link these games with the app but it may be possible to take advantage of the space the game is already taking up on your hard drive. Try installing any game on that hard drive and see if the installation will be slightly faster and will take advantage of files already downloaded onto the hard drive.
