Files showing more storage than they actually are, showing in 'other' and 'installed apps'

I Can't upload an image because on an error, but that's not the issue

the issue is that in storage files installed to c:xbox games, or any game for that matter, shows in 'other' and 'installed apps' taking twice the storage, hwo do I fix this?

***Moved from Windows / Windows 11 / Files, folders, and storage***

Files showing more storage than they actually are, showing in 'other' and 'installed apps'

    Hi,redwolfdabz

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community!

I understand that you are currently facing the problem of two storage spaces being occupied after installing the game.

This is because when Xbox Game Pass installs games, it stores some files in the WindowsApps folder by default, while other files are stored in the XboxGames folder. This behavior is mainly due to the application management method of Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Specifically, the WindowsApps folder is used to store core files of applications and games installed from the Microsoft Store to ensure the security and integrity of the system. The XboxGames folder is used to store other data and files of games. This separation of storage may cause some games to take up double storage space.

I understand your mood and feelings. Regarding your problem, I have helped you to make some inquiries and sort out. You can refer to the following two threads, whose problems are similar to yours.

    • First, delete the delivery optimization files by deleting the folder and using the "Disk Cleanup Tool"

Chinese only, you can use translation tool to view

    • Second, it means that the extra space is the installation content stored as a cache, which will be automatically deleted after a period of time.

It is recommended that you wait first. If you need to try, you can first use the "Disk Cleanup Tool" mentioned in the first thread.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Xbox game pass PC - Not enough space (80070070)

    Hi,

Error 80070070 is a Windows 10 error code, not a Xbox App error. The Xbox App actually uses the Windows Store as its downloading program.

You seem to be attempting to install games on drives that are already critically low on storage. Attempting to install a 40GB game on a drive with only 50GB of storage will more than likely cause installation issues.

The reason for this is because the files downloaded may need to be uncompressed to the storage device during the download and install process, the excess data from this should be removed at the finish of the install. If you don't have enough free space for the temp files, you'll get an error.

Some games are more compressed than others, which would explain why smaller games may show the 80070070 error and others do not. Just because you've got 90GB free on a drive doesn't mean you can necessarily install a 80GB game for example.

You need more space. To install a game that's 50GB you should have at least 100GB free.

    Hope that makes sense.

    File Explorer on Xbox One

I'm just having the same problem, I tried to use other apps, but none shows files that were already stored locally, and to make matters worse, my file storage was already full, so I can not download
    any more movies for example.

Gears of War 5 Install issue PC and no error code HELP FRUSTERATED

well the game itself actually doesn't fully show up just gears 5 and there is no icon picture just the game title name but I still tried right clicking on it and the only option it gives is to remove from list. the game itself couldn't be installed
actually because it would take longer than 5 seconds.
Hi Jacob, Try checking here to see if anything related to Gears 5 shows up and delete everything; To actually uninstall the game and delete it completely, go to your Settings, System, Storage, Temporary Files, and it’s listed in Delivery Optimization Files.

Xbox one won't store games on external hard drive

Go into settings/system click on manage storage is your external showing there if it is click on it go to format.

If it doesn't show in manage storage plug it into computer/laptop and format plug back into console then do as above

Remember you cannot mix media files with games/apps media files need separate hdd/stick.
