  1. Family Sharing - Help Setting up Restrictions

    Hello All,

My son has an XBOX One and is basically on it all the time and I want to restrict his time. I have set up some restrictions using my Microsoft account but its not worked. The reason for it not working (I think) is that I am logged in to the XBOX as me
    and not him.

I have created a Microsoft account for my son and have added him to my account. If I log out of the XBOX as me and in as my son, will the XBOX account he currently plays with, be able to be associated to his Microsoft account rather than mine?

He has been using this account for a few years and we dont want to lose his current Xbox username/moniker and achievement's etc on the games he plays.

Once this is done then I am hoping the Time restrictions I setup will then work?

Your advice on how to do this would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Richard

    :)

    I see the problem here....

If your son has been playing on your account, then I'm afraid it's impossible to transfer the gamer-tag over. If you have created a new account for him to use under your account, then he will have to start again with a new one. All the game progressions
will also need to be started from scratch.

You could try changing your own gamer-tag so it with free it up for him to use, but you still won't be able to transfer anything else.

You see, the details follow the Microsoft Account, not the gamer-tag.

    Sorry....
    Hello wi7bit

I thought that might be the case. Last question I promise - If I set up another Microsoft Account and invited what is technically my account to another family as a member - would that work in terms of being able to restrict time on that account and enabling
me to keep the gamer tag?

I really appreciate your responses and help - thank you :)

    Cheers

    Richard

    Hi

What you have done all sounds correct. If you have added his Microsoft account under yours in Microsoft Family, just make sure he's a member (child) and you are an organiser (adult).

    https://account.microsoft.com/family/

Then when he logs-in on the Xbox using his own profile, all the setting you have made will take affect. You can see this in the recent activity section.

His gamer-tag, game files, save data etc. will be unaffected.
Hello - Thankyou for your reply

I still cant get it to work. When we log on as my son using his newly created Microsoft account it asks us to create a new Gamer tag. We try and put in his existing gamer tag but it doesn't link the account, it just creates a new tag with as near as possible
    a name match.

Is there a step I need to do to disassociate the gamer tag from my Microsoft account to his?

    Many thanks

    Richard

I see what your saying... Do it the other way round and create a new account for yourself and give him yours... šŸ¤”

You would think so, but I've seen other users have problems that after they have become an organiser, they can't revert their account back down to member.

All I can suggest is you try it. Make sure you are removed from the family group with no other member and then change the date of birth and other details to match your sons and see if can be joined as a member to a new account.
