I am the parent with an Xbox game pass account and have two children using an Xbox and a PC. The game pass is purchased under my email address. This was set up a long time ago when I my son was young and I didn't think I'd be playing or needing my own profile. As a result, the main profile is my son's gamertag and has all of his saved game history. When I go to that profile and click "customize" and then "name sharing settings", it shows two accounts, one which is my daughter and one which is mine.

How can I change it to where my gamertag is the one with the main email (and thus the xbox live game pass account) and switch my son's gamertag to a different email and so that he doesn't lose all of his history?

    :)

    Hey there, Rob Winter

You will be able to create your son a new account to use on Xbox, however, you will be unable to transfer data from one account to another. Thus, your son will need to start again on a new account.

    Hope this helps,

    Nathan

He isn't going to go for having all of his experience go back to zero so for now we will keep it as is. Is there a workaround? For example, can we just change the email address that has the Microsoft account, the one that purchases the gamepass? I mean, they have to have a solution for people when they change email addresses right?

    Hey there, Rob Winter

People can create an alias to change their email address. They would first need to create an email address to use as an alias through the Microsoft account overview page when creating an alias. Then make that their primary account. However, this only adds another email address they can use to sign into their account with. The Microsoft account and content purchased on the Microsoft account remains the same, this will include the Xbox gamertag.

It doesn't move anything over, it just allows a user to use another email address to sign into their Microsoft account with. More information on how to use the Account Alias feature can be found in this article: Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support

However, I would not recommend using this method to try and move an Xbox account onto a new Microsoft account as it is not intended to be used in this way and it will not work like you intend for it to be used. Effectively all you will be doing is giving your son your Microsoft Account.

You can make a new account for yourself to use, leaving your son with your profile. The only downside to this is that the account will be an adult account and you would need to try changing the date of birth on the account to match his, so it starts treating it as a child account. You will, however, need to create your account first and set up the family before you change the date of birth on your son's account. Otherwise, it will mess things up and will not work properly.

    Hope this helps,

    Nathan

Child won't appear on Xbox privacy settings

Once you've added the Childs account into your family. You make the changes through the parent account in the family settings. Be sure to sign the profile out then back in so the changes take effect.

Let's clear up this whole "your friends have to pay a fee if you let them borrow their game" concept.

In response to families & multiple consoles in a household: use a family account, that way your games under the "parent" profile are also considered owned by all of the other family profiles (or child accounts) as well, regardless of which console they're
on... I imagine that with the consoles going through so great a change, I can only assume that the family plans will also undergo changes that are more appropriate for the new console (better & improved all-around).
