You must verify who you are on the accounts

That is a good security policy

Every company has strict rules under which you must meet to make changes to an account

Those rules are enforced by privacy laws it would be scary if a person can call support and cancel my membership or charge 100dollars without meeting requirements

The only other way is to refer to the complete credit card number they previously had on their account or at least the last four digits which is possible since you need a creditcard for psu

When you purchase Gold Family, you must purchase it from the 'parent account'. This account will have full permissions and full control over what happens with the Gold Family Pack and the settings. So, it would be up to you if

Your best bet is to have him keep playing on the same profile and create a different one for the parent account.

Who's name that is on it is not really important, unless calling in to support and needing to verify the account.

If it is your email on the account, you can change the email, freeing yours up. However, there is a 30 day wait period before you can use that email on a different account.
