Fable 2 Platinum version and Gamepass version DLC issue

Hi Team,

So, a few years ago, some of us were asking about issues relating to the Fable 2 Platinum edition (Knothole island/see the future dlc) and Backwards compatability, but today I have found a new issue.

The Platinum (Classics) edition of Fable 2 works great on Xbox one, the DLC install as they should and I have access to them in-game as you would expect, however, their is an issue relating to Gamepass as I'll explain below.

If a user has installed Fable 2 (platinum edition) which includes the DLC, AND has Gamepass, and tries to play the Gamepass installed version of Fable 2(ie not insert their own copy of Fable 2), the downloaded DLC (Knothole island - premium version & See
the future - premium version) are not recognized by the game and any save files created with the disc based version are not playable due to a DLC missing error in-game

I can only assume that the version that is available on Gamepass is different.

What I do know is that, instead of installing the game from data on the Fable 2 physical disc, the Xbox grabs an 8gb+ version from the store, this also may be where the issue arises.

Please could MS elaborate on this as Gamepass owners who already own Fable 2 and it's DLC from the disc based version should be able to play the game without inserting a disc.

That explains it all then, thank you for your speedy reply, I'm relieved I wasn't the only person to encounter this issue, albeit a very limited one in terms of games which are BC, have DLC included on one disc and on the Gamepass list.

I'll continue with the work around I currently use to enjoy the DLC, and maybe in the future we'll see a remastered version of Fable 2/3 from MS

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. I know exactly about the Fable 2 matter you speak of, as I have also encountered this as well. The reason behind this is that unlike other, say Game of the Year editions of different
titles, where you got a DLC disc and used that to install the content onto your console, and then used the game that was included in the bundle. The DLC in this game is implemented into the disc. There currently is no "Platinum" edition of the game available
on the Xbox Marketplace since this seemed to have been an exclusive version of the game that is limited to only the retail disc version of the title.

It's unlikely anything is being done. There are several factors working against you:

Microsoft closed Lionhead Studios, the developer of Fable, over four years ago.
Fable 2 was released in 2008, and the Platinum Hits version is over ten years old.
A change to the Xbox One's backwards comparability would be required, which is unlikely to happen this late in development.
Fable 2 was released in 2008. No one at Microsoft had imagined Game Pass. The Xbox Marketplace was very different during this era (it was mostly XBLArcade games). For example, the digital version of Fable 2 was sold in episodes.

As MBraderz pointed out, you will need to play the game using your Platinum Hits disc, on a compatible version of the Xbox One (S or X). Your other option is to play on an Xbox 360.
