    Appologies if this gets a little long winded but I wanted to present as much facts as thoroughly possible in a hope to resolve my issues.

    I have been playing Starfield on XBox Cloud (and loving) Game Pass with almost zero latency, cetrainly not noticable, yet any other game has latency of 30 seconds to minutes. Oddly in some games I can hear the game respond (audible clicks) as I press a button almost instantly but the visual can take multiple seconds to repsond as I said in some cases minutes. During this time the game continues to animated normally. I use the XBox PC app and am playing all games remotely using the XBox cloud game pass, there are no local installs.

    Every search I do says my pc is not up to specification but two things here :-

    • I have absolutely no issues playing Starfield, no video artifacts, no audio glitches and very responsive!
    • Whilst my pc is old hence wanting to play cloud games, it is, I believe above minimum specification and bear in mind I am not running any game locally:
      • a first gen Intel i7-950 Quad core, 12Gb ram, SSD's running up to date Windows 10.
      • AMD Radeon HD5800 graphics.
      • Physically connected to router, no WIFI.
      • 60Mbps download, 16Mbps upload , at a minimum from testing. Home broadband, Fibre to the cabinet, BT. No ther users on the network except my phone which is not doing anything.
    I have tried with all antiviruses disabled (ESET and Malwarebytes), no difference and have now even added specific rules for xbox cloud app, still no difference.

    I have switched my router (ASUS) to gamer mode, no difference.

    I have tried having all things other than XBox app closed, no task tray for things such a Steam, no difference.

    I am trying to play stand alone in all cases, no voice chat, it is disabled in the xbox app.

    I have tried the following games amonst many all with the same issues. Wartales, Skyrim, Common' Hood, No Man's Sky, Like a Dragon: Ishin, From Space.

    I am in the UK and one article (as recommened by Bing chat) suggested the hosting servers may not be local to me, something I can understand but I feel this would not introduce latency in the tens of seconds. I could understand it would be difficult to play competitive shooter but this is not my case.

    I would appreciate any guidance or constructive comment.

    Hi! My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

    Cloud gaming requires enough CPU and GPU power to handle video streaming. As your hardware is rather old, this may be causing problems when streaming games. If possible, I recommend trying cloud gaming on a different device such
    as a smartphone or tablet to see if the same issue occurs.

    Another factor to consider is network latency. You can visit the following website to check the latency between your network and the nearest Azure server, which is the service Xbox Cloud Gaming uses: https://www.azurespeed.com/Azure/Latency

    Please check that site and let me know what the latency result is.

    Hi RainingRoses,

    thank you, my name reflects my perpetual state :) .

    I have been unable to get the Game Pass app playing games on my phone, it does the same thing and only offers me options to remote install. It could be its an old phone. I am not worried about this, I wouldn't use my phone for playing games, I struggle at the best of times with a large screen and a controller.

    I have accepted your suggestion of playing via the web as resolving, in truth I am more than happy to use this method, at least it works and seemingly with no detriment. I played a little bit yesterday and found no issues throughout a few games I was previously having trouble with.

    I will update if there is any change in the pc xbox app for me. Maybe after its next update will be worth a try.

    thank you for the response.

    First off let me answer your question which I am guessing will not be relevant in a second, but anyhow it is an Asus RT-AC68U, it is old but has never failed me. I am physically (and was) plugged in via a Cat5 cable direct into the router from the pc. The only device I have working on WIFI is my iphone 7.

    You mentioned the Xbox web way of playing, thank you, it didn't occur to me to try this, I feel a little stupid as I had tried everything else I could think off. I had always assumed that if I used the web it would just launch the xbox app. However for completeness I thought I would try it from the same pc I am having issues when using the xbox app. After trying, I was surprised to see it remained in a web session. I tried several games they all seem to be working, no noticable latency and if this is the workaround I have to do for these games, I am more than happy.

    It does leave me a little confused though as to why the web way works and the Xbox app way doesn't (except for Starfield) and what could be causing it.

    I’m not sure why the latency only occurs in games (all apart from Starfield, which makes it even more strange) in the Xbox app but not on the website. All I can really recommend is this troubleshooting guide:

    Does it work okay when playing from your phone in the Game Pass app?

    I’m glad that you at least have a temporary workaround for now. Feel welcome to share an update here if you do ever find the exact reason/cause of the issue and a more permanent solution.

    Hi Kyle, thank you for your time.

    Whilst playing the games, Starfield or the ones I am having trouble with the XBox app never records more than 6% on the process list. When viewing all hyperthreads on the CPU (8), no thread is above 10%. As to GPU I am not 100% sure how to test that as due to its age it doesn't appear in task manager. I do however regularly watch 4k Netflix or Amazon with zero issues, and as I have said I have zero issues with Starfield which at times can be quite graphic intensive.

    Using the network latency test link my two nearest servers UK South and UK West are reporting averages of 29ms and 30ms. If I test against US East, it is averaging 97ms.

    I have just installed the Xbox app to my phone and am stuggling to figure out how to play a game. I get to select the game but it just gives me options to push the install somewhere. I will update further when I figure out what I am doing wrong.
