    Extreme fluctuating latency/ ping


    Recently, every time I try to play an online game my ping/ latency fluctuates from my usual network speed of around 20-30ms to ping ranging from 150-1500+. This extremely high latency occurs roughly every 15 seconds in game and last a few seconds before going back to normal then spiking again.I’ve been using this console and this network for over 3 years and never experienced problems like this. Another point to note is this problem is only happening on the Xbox and all other devices on my house are unaffected. Also, if I restart my network and then immediately use the Xbox afterwards then latency is normal but this is the only scenario where my ping is normal- if I go on a couple hours after restarting the router then the latency is bad.

    I understand that you are experiencing issues with high latency/ping when playing on the Xbox.

    I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

    Please power cycle your router and console by unplugging your router and Xbox for about 5 minutes, then plug them back in.

    Kindly clear alternate MAC address. Go to Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings.

    Select Alternate MAC Address and choose Clear.

    Restart your console.

    Next is set a manual DNS, please go to settings> network> network settings> Advanced settings>DNS Settings> Manual.

    PRIMARY DNS: 8.8.8.8

    SECONDARY DNS: 8.8.4.4

    If you're on Wi-Fi, try switching to a wired Ethernet connection for a more stable network. And see if this resolves the issue.

    or your phone is just buggy, xcloud like many other streaming platforms are trash, the latency is insane even on gigabit connections with extremely low ping rates. they want people to take it serious then they are going to have to find a way of making the latency the same as playing on a local machine, with zero compression and full hd. until then it is just a fad and will die out.

    I don't think they should match players by ping & latency or by region. I think they should match players by ping, latency, AND region.

    hotspots using mobile data are not generally the best for gaming online, they can have good speeds but have extremely erratic ping so latency can usually cause big issues. also they don't play nice with some services due to port issues.
