  1. External SSD Appears and Disappears

I have an Xbox One. I bought a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD. I used a insignia hard drive port (I call them toasters, the hard drives stick out on the top) and I was able to format it for Xbox use and it worked fine. Well my hard drive toaster is for my computer so I bought a Ugreen External Hard Drive Enclosure USB 3.0 to SATA III Adapter for 2.5" model number 60353.

When I connect the my Samsung 860 into it and then the the Xbox it pops up on the bottom and then it disconnects, then pops up again, it does this continually and won't actually work. When I got to my apps the ones I've moved to the hard drive appear and disappear.

Is there any fix for this?

    :)

    External SSD Appears and Disappears

    Hello!

My name is Dérek, I'm an independent platform consultant and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help you.

Fabian, this shows an incompatibility with the console.

Try using it directly, with the external SSD connected directly to the console via USB cable.

If you still have this inconsistency, it could be a USB port error, it's worth testing on another port.

I am available for new information.

    XBOX X/S controller intermittently blinks

Thanks. It appears the SSD external drive number 2 was the issue. Maybe!

That narrows it down to 3 issues.

    Bad USB SSD Docking cable

    Bad SSD

XBOX S does not play well with 2 external SSD drives

Sometimes when a drive starts to fail it will do strange things .

last one that failed had a bad cable as well as a bad drive. Difficult to troubleshoot eh.

Rise of the Tomb Raider only starts with DLC installed, if console is switched offline.

If anyone is interested, we managed to find that the problem only occurs if the game is installed on an external ssd.

If the game is moved from the ssd to the internal hdd the problem does not occur. Formating the ssd and moving the game back did not fix the problem. Other games launch fine from the external ssd.

The problem seems to be linked to (external?) ssds and (Rise of the Tomb Raider?) DLCs.

Playing XB Series Exclusives on External SSD

So no upcoming X/S exclusive games will be able to play off an external SSD? Even an official Xbox external SSD?

If I have the same XBox One game saved to multiple external drives, how can I tell which drive is being used?

because of their higher prices I would only be able to afford a small (256GB) SSD drive
    Hi

Don't be fooled into buying an external SSD, most are far too expensive for what they are. I'm not saying not to buy an SSD though.

The cheapest option is to make your own. All you need is a standard 2.5" SSD and an external USB 3.0 drive enclosure. SSD's on their own work out a lot cheaper and a Drive enclosure costs only $10. External SSD use the same tech, just in a glued together
    case.

It's not complicated either. Putting an SSD hard drive in an enclosure is as easy as changing batteries in a TV remote.

My external SSD is a 2.5" Corsair MX500 SSD drive.
