    I upgraded the external hard drive on my ps4 to a 5tb. The old 4tb I moved to my xbox one s. Now when I turned off my ps4 console the hard drive would turn off as well, however when I turn off my Xbox its still on even when it's in the power saving off
    setting. There's the full system shutdown option in the settings menu to turn off the console but its still on then then too, does anyone know what's up with that? I figured maybe the power save mode might still give off power in the usb ports is that it,
    or is the Xbox really just on all the time.

    How to make external hard drive the main download drive?

    hi, I'm just up dating my post about the external hard drive., as found a new issue. It seems that when I set the Power and Startup set to "Instant On", and the setting "When Xbox is off turn off storage", is unchecked, and I'm using the external hard drive
    at the main download hard drive. When I'm downloading updates, games or DLC it seems to NOT want to work automatically in sleep mode when I shut the Xbox off. Although the power light stays on the power supply, and still connected to network, as I can see
    the light on my switcher, i notice the external hard drive power is off. and nothing is getting downloaded. updates and DLC do not get downloaded to the external hard drive in instant on mode? it seems I have to put it back into energy saving mode before
    I start downloading, and let the Xbox stay on the whole time. is there another setting that I missing to fix this?

    Xbox One Auto Update (NOT)

    Are you using instant on or power saving mode? Do you have external hard drives? If you are using power saving mode, auto update will not work.

    Thanks for bringing this issue to the attention of the forums. I understand your Seagate External Hard drive is turning itself on and off while the console is powered down? You may want to switch your Power Mode to Energy Saving ( Settings,>Power & Start
    up> Power mode & startup>Power Mode switch to Energy Saving Mode) and see if that helps. Also in the Power mode & start up setting you will see an option that says "When Xbox is off, turn off storage" make sure that box is checked. If the issue persists you
    may want to contact the manufacturer of the third party external drive for more information about their product.

    go to SETTINGS on CONSOLE, then POWER SETTINGS, and change the power mode on console to ENERGY SAVING MODE, now when you turn off console , it will turn off hard drive, and turns off fan on power supply. It will no download updated while off.
