External Hard drive not working after xbox series x reset (keep games and apps)

Hello.

I've had my external hard drive since I got the xbox one a year after it originally released. I got the series x and I've had no problems with my external hard drive.

I was having problems with creating saves on a game and I've read that reseting the xbox while keeping games and apps fixes the issue. It did fix the save issue however now my xbox is not detecting my external hard drive anymore.

I've tried the different USB ports, restarting the xbox many times. I've tried plugging the external into my computer. The device manager detects the hard drive but I can't do anything to it (most likely it's formatted for the xbox).

Anyone had this issue before?

To transfer games from the internal hard drive to an external hard drive on an Xbox Series S or X, navigate to "My games & apps", select the game you want to transfer, choose "Move or Copy", then select the external drive as the destination and confirm.

Figured it out.

Plugged it into my pc pressed Windows + X for disk management, it had to be initialized for the pc to read it. Then I plugged it back into my xbox which then detected it and I had to reformat my external hard drive.

An external hard drive used on the One will work for the Series S/X, but won't have the exact same performance as the one created for the Series S/X.

If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.

Your drive will work the same on Series X as it does on Xbox One and you won't need to format it.

However, Series X games or Xbox One games with Series X enhancements will not run from that drive and will either need to be installed internally or to an external SSD designed for Series X/S.

Your hard drive will be too slow for Series X games. They can be stored there, but not run from there.
