External hard drive not displaying all games on Series S

I have an external 2TB hard drive that I've used for a couple of years for game storage on Xbox One. Now playing on a Series S, I tried transferring a game from Series S internal storage to the external hard drive. I cannot transfer without deleting games as the hard drive is apparently full.

However, only some games (about 600GB worth) are visible on the external hard drive when plugged into my Series S. The other 1.4TB of space is apparently full but no games are showing. Plugging my hard drive back into the Xbox One, I've found the missing 1.4TB of space taken up by many games (e.g. Forza 5) - I know I cannot play certain games from the hard drive when using my Series S, but all games should still show as being on the hard drive regardless of which xbox it's plugged into.

I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if there's an easy fix?

Are they disk games ?

Also you can't tun optimized games on external.hdd

You must.transfer games to the Xbox storage card or internal.memory

Forza.games would.be optimized

You would have.to download them.from.Xbox one or series s directly onto.the external hdd to avoid the optimization

Would you mind giving this a try?

- Go to Settings > General > Sleep mode & startup > Sleep mode > select Energy-Saving.

- Press and hold your console's power button until it shuts down.

- Unplug your external hard drive.

If your hard drive has its own AC adapter, you'll need to unplug both the AC adapter and the USB cable.

- Unplug your console's power cord for 5 minutes.

- Plug everything back together.

Try using a different USB port on your console and plugging your power cord directly into one of the wall's outlets.

- Turn your console on and see if the issues persist.

They're online gamepass games I downloaded on my xbox one to my external hardrive. Some would be optimised, some are not. It's not an issue with running the games, the games just aren't showing on the external drive when plugged into the series s so I can't transfer or manage storage space effectively.

Yes you can! As the Series S has limited space on the drive, you can connect an external hard drive to store games and media.

Are you sure about that?

I've got a Series S and all of my Series X|S games can ONLY run from either internal or expansion storage, they won't run from a slow external mechanical hard drive. Even an external SSD isn't considered quick enough for these games.

XBox One games can run from either but Series optimised games must run on internal or expansion.

You can back up Series games to external, but not run them there.
