External Hard drive issue?

Bear with me... this may be confusing.

I have an Xbox One and about a year or two ago, my brother had bought me an external hard drive. It worked perfectly, I was able to download games, and play games that were downloaded onto my hard drive.

Recently it hasn’t been letting me download any games to the device and does not let me play games that are already downloaded.

I’ve already went into my settings and set my External as my go to place for new installations, downloads, etc. and still does not work. I’ve tried unplugging it, plugging it back in, resetting my console, even resetting it to factory settings.

It’s like my Xbox doesn’t want to download games to the external, so I’ve had to delete games/apps just to download new games to my internal.

It shows that it is connected when I view my games & apps.

Is this an issue with my Xbox console itself or just my External hard drive?

Hard Drive Storage Limit

if adverts for "compatible" external hard drives are any indication it would seem the external storage patch should be coming some time soon although I note it wont be in the first patch released.

I am having the same issue. As of today, my xbox has been unable to detect my external hard drive. I was able to use the external hard drive last night by playing multiple games installed on it without any issue. The system doesn't
even list the device as an option to transfer games, or view any content on the device as well as not detecting any games installed.

I have had the device plugged into the system the entire time I have owned it, well over 1 year. I have unplugged the device and plugged into a different usb port, hard reset the xbox multiple times, and factory reset the system. I plugged the device into my
PC and on the PC it says the device is working properly.

I contacted support about this issue, and the only thing I was suggested was the factory reset to the system since I was on the most current update.

Looking at the most recent update on the xbox, it was last night at 11:49 PM after I had gotten off the system for the night.

Any other ideas that could help detect the device?

Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

Some ideas to try maybe?

1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

May I know if an external hard drive is plugged into your console? If yes, have you kept the external hard drive unplugged when performing troubleshooting steps and check if the issue persists without external hard drive?

Do you have an External hard drive plugged into your console? A corrupted External hard drive may cause issues as well.

If you have an external hard drive could you try deleting a game and installing it directly to the console's hard drive to rule out issues with the external drive itself?
