External hard drive from a xbox one to a gaming desktop pc

Hi,

After you connect the drive back up to your PC, you'll need to run the Windows Disk Management application. You need to use this Windows tool to format the drive back to NTFS.

The drive won't show on your PC until you do this as when the the drive is formatted on Xbox One, the file system it uses is not recognised in Windows.

The quickest way to get to the Disk Management tool is by right clicking on the Windows Start button and selecting Disk Management from there.

Yes you should be able to as most external hard drives use the USB connection so as long as you have an open USB port on your PC you can use it. But you need to reformat the drive to be compatible with your PC..

Desktop external hard drives tend to be faster since they have their own power supply and I find its cheaper (gb per $ wise) to go with a desktop hard drive then a portable one.

I know WD makes an external portable hard drive designed specifically for consoles like the Xbox One. I would maybe check that one out if you want to go portable.
