External Hard Drive "Forgetting" What's Installed On It

Recently I noticed that games I had installed on my 8TB external RAID drive were going missing in my games list. If I put the game into the disc drive, it would stay it was installing, then suddenly "just be installed". Thinking it was a glitch, I went through
and put over half my discs back into the Xbox and all the missing games showed back up. Few days later? Gone again. Same thing. Put the discs back in - same thing. Xbox reads the disc. Says "let me install this...oh wait. It IS installed." and that's it.

Steps Taken to Fix: Hard reset Xbox, factory reset, formatted external device and re-installed 4.2TB's of games (VERY TIME CONSUMING), tried ANOTHER external storage device of similar size - installed all the games there. Same problem.

I'm now 100% certain that this is an Xbox problem and not an external drive issue.

This is an original Xbox One running beta firmware - 10.0.16299.4016

External hard drive problems

I was playing Xbox one evening and my console froze, so I restarted and tried playing again, most of my games were installed on my external hard drive. I tried playing every game I had on my external hard drive and none would start.

I completely reset my console and external hard drive, i installed games on my internal hard drive and they all work, but the games I installed on my external hard drive still do not work.

ok , I found out how to do it . Find the settings then go to System then from System find the column that has Storage listed at the top. Underneath it should have "Manage Storage" . Then when I click on that it says Storage Select a device to see its options and I have an Internal and my formatted X box external hard drive . Move the Highlight from the Internal to the External hard drive and click the "A" button on the controller and it brings up a list
View Contents , Install here by default , Rename , and Format.
So just highlight the Install here by Default and your games will install on the External hard drive instead of the Internal.
