External hard drive and moving App

Hi,

I tried to move a game which I had downloaded from the Xbox games pass pc beta, to my external hard drive. I clicked the move button and choose the drive. Then I went on working with other things. After a while when I checked, the progress bar wasn't showing
and the move button was greyed out. So I Restarted the system.

Now I observe the following.

1. The external drive and C drive are both showing the same volume used as before.

2. The move button is still greeted out.

3. I cannot eject the drive, not even after restarting, shutting down and rebooting, updating drivers. The windows says the drive is not ejectable.

4. The game won't start

Request some guidance.

PS - I had previously moved two games and everything was working fine

Hello!

With the External Hard drive first close any Game/App that is using the external HDD.

Then unplug From the console (try to not move the external Hard Drive before the unplug)

You can't disable the internal hard drive. Go ahead and attach an external hard drive and move all you games/apps/saves to it and run your games from the external drive.

I don’t think you can just move game files to another location when they have been downloaded under the Xbox GamePass for PC service. I believe this has something to do with DRM and is most probably why you are experiencing issues now.

You may need to reinstall again.

I would recommend you try and run the store troubleshooter on your Windows system

the apps are UWP apps and by default are stored in a location that only the system account has access to, in order to preserve the security of the apps (and make sure you don't get viruses etc)

The option to move the game should then work. in this case, it may be the store app on your system being wonky.

Follow the below steps to reset Windows Store

Press Windows +R
Type Wsreset.exe and press Enter
