External drive ready message every bootup prevents automatic updates

I use energy saving mode and for a couple of months now I get an external drive ready message every time i boot up the console.

This in itself wouldn't be a problem but it prevents automatic updates from working for games on that drive.

I have 2 externals attached to the rear ports. A 500GB USB powered SSD and an 8TB HDD with its own power source.

The SSD never gives this message but the 8TB gives this message every bootup.

Only games on the internal and the 500GB SSD will automatically update but games on the 8TB never auto update and thats since that message started popping up every boot.

Games download and run just fine from it but i'm sick of having to go into my games and apps to manually update the games on it.

I've alread tried formatting it and doing a full factory reset but that didn't help the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and managed to fix it?

Hi Malacath,

It could be related to the fact that the HDD having issues needs an external power source causing the Xbox's operating system to re-install the drivers for the HDD. The message you get after every boot up makes it seem like the HDD is being recognized and
installed like it was the first time you plugged it in.

Has this always happened with this specific HDD?

Have you tried setting the console to Instant-On power mode to see if you can re-create the issue when booting up the console?

Is your Xbox enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program?

Let us know that information so we can try to pinpoint what could be causing the message to pop up.

Thanks for the reply.

Automatic updates is switched on and like I said it works for all games on the internal and the SSD. But doesnt work for all the games on the 8TB HDD because of that message I get every bootup

Sometimes you have to go though the settings and turn on the auto update, That's what I had to do with mine hope it helps you too

I have the same issue.... My external drive worked since months.... After the last update i get the message external hard drive is ready again and again......

Hi Ive recently purchased a 1TB external hd 3.0 and when it is plugged in I get a message on the screen saying external storage ready, then when im installing a game to the external hard drive it keeps saying installation stopped then it comes back up with
external storage ready again this happens every 40 seconds or so could someone please help
