    External Drive Problems

I recently moved to another flat for a 4 weeks internship were I dont have acess to a internet connetion. To pass the time I brought my xbox one x (only halfe a year old) with me. First day plugged in, played some games, no problem. On the second day,
the xbox was plugged into power since the last session, I start it up and I am greeted by the Error code : 0x800704cf You need internet for this. After some research on the phone I find out its an old Windows 8 failure code having something to do with internet
connection ? the funny thing is, I put the box in offline mode, since there is no wifi anyways(so techincally it shouldnt even try to connect to online services). Second thing I realize is, that all my games on my external drives, one years old 2tb external
seagate hdd, running it since my first xbox one, never had any problem, and one 2 moths old crucial external ssd 500gb. The xbox recognizes both of them and can tell me they are 90%ish full, but when I select them, there is nothing stored on them. Additional
Infos: I went through every troubleshooting guide they have for external drives and save problems. Both drives are shown as healthy on my laptop if I plug them in. I doubt they both kicked it, the hdd is old, so there is the possibility, but I highly doubt
they both died at the same moment given the ssd is just two months old. It feels like either a bug or a hidden way of xbox trying to enforce having to stay online.

    :)

Xbox one wont recognize external hard dirve

Seems to me that it is a problem with either the drive itself or the cable connecting the drive to the console.

If you have another external drive handy, try using the cable from your xbox external drive and see if it can connect to a computer or laptop. If it can, then its more than likely a problem with your external drive.

Alternatively, you could test your external drive on another xbox one console.

I wouldn't do a factory reset unless you have internet network you can connect to because a first time install requires a XBLive connection to complete the setup.

Have you got automatic updates for system, games and apps turned on?

The message "you need internet for this" suggests the console is trying to update something.

Did support have you re-format the drive? If so, everything on that drive has been wiped.

If you are unable to format it again for games and apps once you plug it back into the console then its dead.

    External Drives sometimes fail.

Buy a new one and re-download all of your games to it. I recommend a Seagate. Hasn't failed me yet. 4+ years old.

    External Drive Problems

Sounds like maybe an OS issue with the xbox. I'd suggest a soft factory reset.

    Instructions are here > https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults

This will reset the OS and settings but wont delete any games or saves.

I don't have problems with the C: drive and changing the letter of the external drive didn't solve the problem.
