So I guess I'm a bit confused, I have a external SSD from Xbox itself and I can play over half the games that are installed on it but not the other half where it says I need to move it to internal. What did I pay microsoft for if it didn't do the exact thing it was advertised and told me it would do. The box literally advertised this device as external storage you can play games on... How do I play Borderlands 3 without having to uninstall games?

Games that are Series S/X optimized will only run from the internal drive or an expansion card (Western Digital just released one, but the most known one is the Seagate version). Otherwise, you can only store those games on any other type of external drive, but you won't be able to run them.

Some games support running content from external devices, other games don't. DLC (and not just a 108K downloaded file) tend to not work from external drives as the USB doesn't stream the content fast enough for the game to use it.

Have you tried clearing the system cache? That sometimes fixes things that re-downloading doesn't. If that doesn't work, you could try formatting the HDD. Just be sure to MOVE ALL SAVES TO AN EXTERNAL DEVICE SINCE IT WILL DELETE EVERYTHING. Hope that helps.
