Experation of gems/rewards points/rewards percentage

What in the rewards program expires and what does not. So do gems have an expectation date or a reset date. Same with cash back percentage stars and levels. Finnaly do rewards points reset or expire as well?

Not appropriate value

In the Terms and Conditions for Xbox Live Rewards, it gives the value of points as:

"The Rewards Credits conversion is as follows: one thousand (1,000) Rewards Credits = $1 USD."

And, since you can trade gems in the vault for XBL Rewards Points, 250 gems for 5,000 points, or 500 gems for 10,000 points, we can arrive at the value of the MyVIP gems 1 Gem = 20 points, or 50 gems = $1 USD.

Microsoft Rewards Points, on the other hand, are only worth a little over 2/3 the value of XBL Rewards Points.

Also in the Terms and Conditions, it says:

"Any changes in Rewards Credit values will be promptly announced and
will not impact any Rewards Credit values already earned."

So, this 1:1 conversion of Gems and XBL Points to Microsoft points when the changeover happens will violate Microsoft's own Terms and Conditions.

So, I think someone needs to rethink the 1:1 conversion, and maybe also stop limiting the digital items in the Vault, so that users can get the full value guaranteed by Microsoft's own Terms and Conditions.

Not exactly. If you keep the gems until the program switches to the Microsoft Rewards program, each gem will be transferred over as 1 Microsoft Rewards point (So you would get 1880 Microsoft Rewards points). Gems and Microsoft Rewards points don't actually
have a monetary value so it wouldn't be the same as $18.80.

 

Currency from rewards credits expire 1 year after they have been deposited into your account.

Star levels are generally reset each year on January 1, but they were not reset this past January.

Other than that, nothing else expires.

Gems do not have a expiration or reset date. Note however, that Perks that award Gems must be claimed from your MyRewards page within 60 days or they will expire without awarding Gems. MyVIP had a recalibration for the last few years. At the end of the year,
we place you in your MyVIP rank for the new year based off your eligible spending from the previous year, and set your progress to the default state. This happened in September 2015 and December 2016. We did not recalibrate this year (December 2017). Rewards
Credits do not expire from your Rewards Account, but once deposited as currency into your Microsoft Account, they are subject to the terms of all promotional currency, and expire after one year.
