    “Every time I update the xbox app on windows it breaks it


    “Every time I update the xbox app on windows it breaks it and won't connect; If I do a system restore to before the update it works. I've tried resetting the app, reinstall xbox game services and have turned off my firewall and microsoft virus but the only thing that works is a system restore and just not update the app.

    It appears that you are having issue installing updates with your Xbox app even after performing relevant troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us check on this together and sort this out. Rest assured that we will provide more relevant troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue in a timely manner.

    We would like to ask few questions to help us isolate the issue further.

    1. What is the version of Windows you are using? To check, press Windows key + R and in the run dialog box, press winver and hit OK.

    2. Are you getting specific error code or error message?

    3. When did the issue start?

    4. Has there been any changes with the device before this issue happen?

    It is possible that other related application that is needed for Xbox app updates are corrupted. Let us make sure that other applications are working fine and Windows updates are installed in your device.

    Here are the other relevant troubleshooting steps worth trying for:

    1. Make sure Windows is up to date

    • Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
    • On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
    • On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available including optional updates for your device.
    • Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
    • Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
    2. Make sure both the Xbox and Gaming Services apps are up to date

    • Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.
    • Select Library.
    • Under Updates & downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.
    3. Make sure you are signed in to the Xbox app and the Store with the same account.

    > To make sure your permissions for the game can be validated, be sure to sign in to both the Store and the Xbox app using the same account that was used to purchase the game.

    4. Uninstall and reinstall the Xbox app.

    Uninstalling the Xbox app:

    • Click on the Start menu.
    • Start typing Xbox until you get the Xbox app of your choice.
    • Right-click the app and choose Uninstall.
    • Answer ‘Yes’ to the prompt and wait for the process to finish.
    Reinstall Xbox app:

    • Open Microsoft Store
    • Search for Xbox app and select get in store and start downloading.
    • Wait for the completion of installation and try launching again the app.

    Xbox can't sign in

    Hi Josef,

    I'm using Windows 11 actually with the latest updates. I did through Windows restore, I restored the settings of a couple of days ago.

    It's not the Windows Update but Xbox App update,

    Every other Microsoft app works fine in the meantime.
