    How do I fix this? I'm on a disability income from military service and can't afford to replace the one thing that brought me a sliver of joy. What part do I need to buy or, what this do I need to update and how do I update when I can't get past this screen?

    According to Xbox Support, the first step you should try is resetting your console: https://support.xbox.com/help/errors/error-code-e208

    You can reset your console from the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. From the Something went wrong screen, select Troubleshoot to open the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

    If you need to manually bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter, follow these steps:

    Power off your console, and then unplug the mains lead to ensure that the console is completely powered off. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the mains lead back in.

    Press and hold the Pair button and the Eject button on the console, and then press the Xbox button on the console.

    (The Xbox Series S and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition do not have Eject buttons. You can bring up the Xbox Start-up Troubleshooter on this console by holding only the Pair button and then pressing the Xbox button )

    Continue holding the Pair button and Eject button for 10-15 seconds.

    Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair button  and Eject button after the second power-up tone.

    To reset your console from the Xbox Start-up Troubleshooter, select Reset this Xbox. When prompted, select Keep games and apps.

    The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

    If this works, you should be returned to the Home screen after the console resets, and your console should function correctly now.

    Pressing and holding those two buttons will only bring the the troubleshooting page, then you will get to decide if you want to perform a soft reset or a hard reset!

    start up errors on Xbox    . Have you tried an
    offline update    ? If you are in the insider program we recommend posting on the

    insider forum     as the updates they get are not available to all.
