Hey I switch to Windows 11 not too long ago and I've gotten this terrible error when trying to launch games from the XBOX App on my PC.

"windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have appropriate permissions to access them"

When I go to enable advanced management features for the game it also gives me an error code "0x87e00023"

I don't know if the two problems are related but I do know that my XBOX app is broken and none of my gamepass games work on it.

    Things I have tried :

    - Restarting my PC after every single thing other thing listed here.

    - Verifying admin/adult access in every square inch of the related e-mail (XBOX site, Microsoft Site, local computer, family settings, etc).

    - Repairing, restarting, uninstalling, reinstalling and checking for the files of all and any related games and apps.

    - Using powershell to spew out lots of different commands to get packages and permissions and data .

    - Checking for updates all over the place for everything.

    - Making sure no firewall was messing with access or permissions.

    - Making sure all my accounts are synced and up to date.

    - Re-verifying my age on accounts to "reset" it's knowledge that I am an admin or just a grown adult.

    - Logging in and out of all places and removing and re-adding related accounts.

    - Maybe some other things I've just forgotten over the past 3 days of dealing with this.

If you have any suggestions please add but keep in mind what I've already tried, if you truly believe something I've already done will 100% fix this issue then feel free to write them here, I have found nothing useful online and no customer supports seem to have a clue how to fix this problem.

    :)

I'm also having the same issue every time I try to launch a game it says connect to the internet but I'm already connected. I tried reinstalling all the games on the app and tried reinstalling the Xbox app itself, I'm not sure what to do and can't find a reason why its happening

Yes its only gamepass games on the XBOX app, I can run games on STEAM and BattleNet.

I have a new partition and the destination its installed to doesn't make a difference so far.

Ok. Just to rule this out, do you have Steam games or other games that are not Xbox/Xbox Live related? If you have, are you able to run them without any issue?

I'd recommend you to create another drive partition if you only have one (usually C:) and change the Xbox App default game installation folder to see if it helps. To create another drive partition, please go to:

Then after creating another drive partition:

    Open Xbox app.

Click the profile menu in the top-right and select the Settings options.

    Click on General.

Under the “Game install options” section, select the drive to install games by default.

After you complete the steps, the game files will be stored in the new drive partition. Install a new game on this partition and see if you get the same error.
