You can clear your system cache by going to

Highlight over storage and Press Y

Select Clear System Cache

Power Cycle the box. Try the download again.

We recommend accessing Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

After going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned, I invite you to perform a quick power cycle by turning off the console and then unplugging all the cables. After 2 to 3 minutes, re-plug them back again, then restart your console.

Now I have both reset my router and performed a quick power cycle about 8 hours ago, but I am still getting the same error when I try downloading my profile. The server starts to download my profile, then I get the error when it's about 10% done.

I never set an alternate MAC address in the first place. I performed a quick power cycle, but that didn't help; I am still having the same problem. I did not reset my router.

Which console are you experiencing this error on - Xbox 360, Xbox one, or Series X|S? Are you able to sign into the account in question at https://www.xbox.com or https://www.microsoft.com or on another console?

This error usually occurs because your Xbox Live account is failing to correctly authenticate and it’s generally quite common on Xbox 360 in particular. I’ll try to go through all the possible solutions to this here, with the support guides to refer to. I’ve included steps for both Xbox 360 and Xbox One/Series X|S.

Try making a change to your avatar. Any change will do because the change causes the service to sync your account for your profile.

If you have an active subscription such as Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass, turning on/off recurring billing may help (you can then revert the changes after). This seems to have solved the error for others so you may want to consider this as an option. To try this, sign into your services and subscriptions page where you can manage your subscriptions and payments.

Also, do you have 2FA enabled on your account? This security feature never worked too well on Xbox 360 consoles, and can also cause problems on Xbox One and Series X|S too. If this is enabled on your account, try turning this option off (you can always activate it back on again) and see if this helps.

Sometimes there are account errors that need resolving such as verifying your security info. These issues can be resolved on your account through the Xbox/Microsoft website, as mentioned in the error message.

For some reason, playing an backwards compatible game can resolve the error. There’s a Reddit thread on this with other helpful suggestions.

It’s also recommended to clear the system cache which can sometimes solve errors as well as help improve overall performance.

How to clear the cache on Xbox 360 | Xbox Support then reinstall the latest system update in settings > storage, and enter the following button sequence:

X, LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X. Select the option to roll back all system updates that are installed. The console will then restart automatically and download the updates again. Refer to this troubleshooting page (Xbox 360), or this guide explains how to manually update Xbox One/Series X|S.

Also keep in mind that the Xbox 360 can only handle passwords to a certain length. If your password is 16 characters or more, the console won’t accept it and you won’t be able to sign in. Your password needs to be less than 16 characters because of this limit and restriction.

Restart your console after trying these steps, then try signing in/downloading your profile again. Be sure to wait at least 10-15 seconds before reconnecting the power to completely reset the power supply.

If this issue persists, you may need to reset your console especially if you experience this when trying to download other profiles. I suggest to only try a reset as a last resort though.
