Error 80122734

Hello!

I live in the US and my brothers live in Mexico. I bought them each a $50 xbox live gift card (online code) on Amazon and they get error 80122734 when they try to redeem it. After some searching, it seems like this is a region/currency mismatch. What would
be the recommended way to deal with this? Could they safely change their console region temporarily to enter the codes without losing their current balances?

Since this thread is fairly old, please post a new thread with specific details and troubleshooting steps you have followed in the future.

In this case, if the retailer does not offer codes in the currency you need, I recommend returning the card and purchase the correct card elsewhere. Sincere apologies for any frustration this may have caused!

sorted it. It was a currency conversion clash because of the region I was down for

 

If they were to migrate their regions, any money they still have on their account will still be there, but they won't have access to it until they migrate back to the Mexican region.

You can only migrate your region once every 3 months, so it would not be a great way to handle things. It can also affect licenses on content they may have already bought. It can also affect any content they try to purchase after adding the $50 to their
account. They would only be able to use the money on an account set to the US, but since they live in Mexico they may run into region issues because their account location won't match their physical location.

Unfortunately, there's really nothing else that can be done. Xbox gift cards will only work in the region they are created for and cannot be exchanged for a different currency.
