  1. Error 0x87e00031 when downloading COD Cold War on Xbox 1 s

Recently, my xbox stopped launching the game, so i did a few things to try and fix it and eventually uninstalled to try and reinstall it. However, now when i try to reinstall it, the xbox throws up this error. The same game crashing problem happened to another game, just cause 4, but I solved the problem by reinstalling it, which is why I did the same thing for COD. My internal storage is full, so im also using an external hardrive, which i believe is an official one, i dont know since i got it for Christmas a while back, it had no problems before. Finally, all the games i own are on discs (i shouldnt need to download anything since i have discs but whatever, i miss the old days)

    :)

Error 0x87e00031 when downloading COD Cold War on Xbox 1 s

    Hello Shawn,

Can you try to perform the following troubleshooting:

Solution 1: Clear your local saved games and try reinstalling the game

    1. Eject the disc from your console.
    2. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    3. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Storage devices.
    4. Select Clear local saved games.

Note Selecting this option will not delete any games or progress you have saved in the Xbox cloud. It will only clear data you have saved locally.
    5. Select Yes to confirm.
    6. Once your console restarts, try installing the game again.
If this solution doesn’t work, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Take your console offline and install the game

Take your console offline, cancel the download, and then power cycle the console. After you successfully install the game, go online and let the update download.

Step 1: Use your console offline

    Follow these steps:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
    3. Select Go offline.
    Step 2: Cancel the download

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select My games & apps > See all.
    2. Select Manage > Queue.
    3. Highlight the game you’re trying to install and press the Menu button  on the controller.
    4. Select Cancel.
Step 3: Eject the game disc and power cycle the console

    1. Eject the game disc.
    2. Press and hold the Xbox button to open the Power Center.
    3. Select Restart console.
    4. Select Restart.
Note If the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button  on the console for about 10 seconds until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart.

    Step 4: Install the game

After the console restarts, insert the disc. Follow the steps to install the game.

Note Make sure you do this before you reconnect to the internet.

Step 5: Go online and let the game update install

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
    3. Select Go online.

Error 0x87e00031 when downloading COD Cold War on Xbox 1 s

    Hello ,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

Error 0x87e00031 on Xbox One S usually indicates a problem with the installation process. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    Download doesn't start or fails

Solution 1: Check the Xbox status

Check the Xbox status page. If you see any services with alerts, expand the service, scroll down to Notifications, and sign in to receive a message when the service is up and running again.

    Xbox status page

Solution 2: Sign in with the correct Xbox profile

Make sure you’re connected to Xbox and signed in with the profile that originally purchased the content.

Solution 3: Check the space on your hard drive

View your notifications on your Xbox console to make sure you have enough space on your hard drive to install the content. Here’s how:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select the Notifications icon.
    2. See if there are any notifications about low or unavailable hard drive space. Xbox alerts you when you’re running low.
    3. If there’s a notification about low hard drive space, you’ll have to either delete content to free up space or add an external drive.
For information about setting up and managing external storage, or for info on how to delete items from your hard drive, see:

Manage storage on your Xbox console

Solution 4: Check for a system update

You may need to update your console. For example, if you see a “Download stopped” error, you may need to install an update before the download can complete.

To see if there’s an update available:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates.
    3. If there are any updates, they’ll appear in the left menu. If not, you'll see "No console update available."
Download takes a long time or doesn't complete

If your download is taking a long time or doesn't complete, see:

Troubleshoot slow game or app downloads

Please see: Troubleshoot game or app installation problems on your Xbox console | Xbox Support

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Have a great day!
Solution 1 wont help because I've been trying to solve this for weeks, if there were any downed services, it couldnt be down every time i try to reinstall. Solution 2 wont work because the xbox profile also doesn't matter, because i own the game on a disc, although i have tried it anyways and it still didnt work. Solution 3 wont work because like i said i have a working alternate hard drive, although i have tried it and confirmed it doesnt work. Solution 4 also isnt the prblem because I've just checked it.
